Hi

My PS3 is about 10 months old. In that time it has only been used for about
5 or 6 hours total.

Last night I decided to fire it up after a couple of months, played FIFA08 online and all was well. It prompted me to update the firmware, I did so.

Since the firmware upgrade I will no longer load any discs. No Blu Ray No games. I put the game in and just nothing happens.

Any advice ?
I doubt the Blu Ray laser has packed up.........i mean less than 10 hours use?
Could it be the FW Upgr ? I have already tried resetting to default settings.

hmmm that is weird. are you sure the firmware completely installed? no chance of it being stopped halfway or something?

no i saw it download completely then restart and install
everything else on the console is fine except for recognising and playing discs

perhaps the laser packed up and it was coincidental with the FW upgrade ?
anyway so where is Sony in Cape Town ? does anyone know ?

AFAIK, the v2.43 update apparently does not add any new functionality and is only mandatory for those PS3 users in Japan. So you should not have been prompted to update when you signed into your PSN account. The update would only show up if you manually ask the system for any available firmware updates.

I did that last night, check for update manually and it installed. 100% no problems.

try this:

Hard Reset procedure for the PS3 (as instructed by Sony CS).

Be sure to backup your settings/games saves by doing a System > Backup on your PS3 or you may lose your game saves! Also, this is a last resort procedure prior to exchanging/returning to sony.

1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.

2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.

3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/2 hours [???]). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn't detected after initial reset).

4. Restore your backup you made prior to doing factory/hard reset (optional, if you created a backup).

well, i got nothing to lose, like i sid i hardly used the thing, anyway, did the Hard reset, now running FULL FORMAT, will post results when it's done.

thanks

still the same, no luck on the formatting

any dealth with Partserve Cape Town ? What is their policy on in-warranty units ? do they repair ? do they swop out ?

If ur PS3 is 10 months surely theres a 1 year warranty from sony and you can just swop it out?

Agreed guys....please...lets try to not turn every thread into a freakin console war.

SethGecko has got a problem and is seeking advice, either post something constructive or helpful to him, or just don't post at all.

Onto topic:

If you still fall under warranty period, phone Sony, speak to them, see if they'll swap it for you, otherwise they may give you some help or offer to repair it for you. ;)

Good Luck ;)

i have a ps3 with exactly the same problem i wanna update the firmware too 2.50 hope it helps

Sounds like the newest update has a glitch. I read about it on a site somewhere.

If you have international bandwidth first see if other PS3 owners have had any luck on international forums.

SethGecko did you get sorted? If it under warranty (since its 10 months old) take it back to where you bought it, They should know how to get it replaced.
