My fan noise gets loud, like the secondary fan is on. Is it cos of the weather in Gauteng or is my ps3 starting to have problems ?
Its a 120Gig that's around 18 months.

Is there proper ventilation around it?

My guess is the weather. My media server is also suffering with the heat.

that is ussually a sign that your ps3 is on its way to YLOD

Crap.
I have an original 60gb PS3, one that has the ps2 capability and every summer it whines like crazy in the heat and its still going strong.

I'd recomend cleaning the vents, and maybe sending it in to BT for them to replace the thermal paste with something DECENT like acrylic silver.

Edit: And I agree with Madman88. I have both a 80GB and 60Gb, and they get insanely hot and guess what they havent failed me yet. So I wouldnt say your PS3 is showing early stages of "YLOD" or any nonsense like that

fine by me, I'd rather let them give me a 6 month warranty then a guy coming back to me who I dont even know saying... He broke my PS3 trying to replace a drive or something in that line. I paid R1800 for a new PS3 BR drive and a new thermal paste in the begin of the year and its still working. Money well spent!

My ancient 60gig phat makes a hell of a noise during summer and it is still going strong.

Yours (and mine) are probably clogged up with dust. I'm considering opening mine up and cleaning it, since the warranty has long since expired

thats where you need to to some asking around about ...like i know a guy xbox king and he does good jobs and here in cpt i know someone very well

so yeah some guys you cannot trust but there are those who do a better job than bt games and i have heard of few guys that have been ripped off by bt games
