hey guys

having trouble connecting my ps3 to the internet through my laptop using a USB modem (vodacom). did the following steps as recommended:

changed PC IP adress: 192.168.0.1
subnet mask:255.255.255.0
default gateway:192.168.0.1
ran "cmd" then "ipconfig/all" and used those DNS server numbers for PS3 settings.

for the PS3 used the following setting
IP adress: 192.168.0.2
subnet mask:255.255.255.0
deafault server:192.168.0.1
DNS server numbers from above

finally allowed internet sharing under advanced tab to allow network access all set then.

This is where I get stuck! PS3 internet connection test succeeded for IP address but failed for internet connection something like "An error occurred during communication with the server. This is a DNS error 80710102"

please help, im getting really frustrated.

:confused::confused::confused:

Use google for crying out loud !!!!.

n case anyone gets the following connection error: 80710102 when trying to get online with their ps3 here is my experience and the way to fix it.

Until today, I never had any issues getting online, I have a wired connection into a router, acting as DHCP server, then into a cable modem. Today, though, I could not get online, I was connected to my router, but not to the internet. I kept on getting the above DNS error code. After searching around here, I couldn't find a solution, so I began to look at the problem more closely. Your ISP provider typically gives its customers several DNS IP's and these are stored in your router in the setup menus, usually on the very first page. The ps3 automatically gets the top two DNS IP's and stores them in your network config menus. If, by chance, your 1st DNS IP goes dark and is not recognized by your internet provider, then typically, the client (usually a pc) attached to the router uses the next one down the list, so no problem. BUT, with the sony ps3, there is a problem. The ps3 does not go to the second stored DNS IP.The solution to this problem, if it happens to any of you, is to manually enter your DNS IP's, but reverse their order of importance. Once I did this, I had no problems and internet activity returned as usual. I did a search on Sony's tech support forums and found countless people having similar issues. Hopefully, Sony will fix this annoyance in a firmware upgrade, in order to utilize the second DNS entry but who knows?

Cheers!

thanks guys...still getting stuck with the problem.

Maybe I should have bought the xbox......never!

@Tibby, he did say he had already put in the DNS settings?

Anyway by the sound of it your PS3 has no internet connection at all, the PS3 should receive an IP address from the laptop once you have setup internet connection sharing. Make sure you are sharing the right network connection and are you wired or connecting wirelessly to the laptop?

THE solution

hi there

i can really say been there, done that and NOONE has a solution. that dns prob is experienced by ps3 users the world over and noone has one specific solution. this is what you do:

1- connect ps3 to pc via ethernet
2- connect pc to net via usb/data card
3- share internet connection in network connections (google it to see how)
4- tell ps3 to automatically connect to internet
5- thats it!!!!

no need for dumb routers!!!

ps connect pc to ac power. ps3 downloads take loooong so don't rely on battery power!!!!

What you can also do is use your router ip for dns.
Router 192.168.0.1
Dns 192.168.0.1

Then it will use the dns server that the router is currently using

tibby ,i had that exact problem with my cousins ps3 and still i cant connect.touch stone is having the same problem as me and its been like 2 hours and still i cant do it.i even had a ip adress clash error but that i sorted out.And google is no fkin help at all.

My solution was a bit stupid,I tried the lan to pc thingy,As i have seen this did not work as the ps3 was sending data to the lan adapter but strange the pc did not send any packets back to the ps3,I disabled firewalls and all.
i even tried the ipconfig/all and used the last 2 dns entries and put that in the ps3.

Still the lan connection is only showing the ps3 sending packets but not recieving packets..is this normal,
I tried the internet connection and ip was found but there was a dns error code on the ps3...well the same as touch stones problem.

All my ip adress settings and tcp settings are all correct.default gateway is also correct...
O O O...due to this problem i took the ps3's lan cable and made it a crossover cable(made it a cross over ethernet cable, swapping the 4 wires around).WAS THIS A BAD IDEA OR AM I RIGHT IN MAKING IT A CROSSOVER CABLE.
sHOULD I GET ANOTHER lan cable...or just sap th wires back again..

If there was just a network fundy to post a full setup for ip addresses with pics it would be greatly appreciated.
This is the connection iam strugglin with
ps3----lan cable-----pc--------3g cellphone--------- via bluetooth/hard wire

So can some one post ip adresses for the lan card the ps3 setup menu and the3g modem

If you connected you ps3 straight to the pc then you were right using a crossover cable. Run the network wizard on the pc and choose the option that other users on the network uses your pc to connect to the internet. That should enable internet sharing. Also remove default gateway 192.168.0.1 from your pc's network settings as your are using a usb device

Maybe I should have bought the xbox......

Yea, perhaps ;)

By the way, you guys that are getting DNS errors etc - can you still stream content to your PS3? Or does everything stop working?

Actually i am doing this for a customer.THey want to hook up the ps3 to the damn pc that has a 3g usb cellphone...The pc internet connection is working 100%..very very fast internet access 24/7...strange considering its vodacom.

Dolby... i dont know how to stream,I have not got there yet.....it seems i dont know how to use tversity..help a brother out..

I dunno how to use TVsersity on the PS3 either ... but I stream perfectly with it to my Xbox

Did you run the wizard? It's not recieving coz it's not configured correctly.

i know but i am pulling my hair out with this,i mean i have connected many devices and networking computers together, but this problem is a cracker...i am sure that the ps3 is causing this.i am not very good in understanding the ps3's networking problems,I know the crossover cable i made is right..
Tell me if the ps3 is connected does it always show disconnects on the pc,is this normal.

Do you have xp professional on the pc? If so enable dhcp in the network settings. Then set the ps3 to automatically detect settings. Then run the network wizard to enable other devices to connect through the pc to the internet.
This is not a problem with the ps3, you'll have the same problem if you use another pc instead of the ps3 to use the internet this way.
