Hi guys,

Perhaps one of the more informed forumites could assist me..

How would one identify a 65nm Cell/RSX PS3 in the shops?

I'm asking because I'm looking at purchasing a ps3 and would like the newer one.

:)

Thats prob a very good question...

And I haven't up till now ever seen any info regarding how to differentiate the SKU's from Sony... MS at least have a few identifying marks...

Aagh, maybe this will clarify for you.

There is other SKU's pending on region but these are the main SKU's as i understand it

Where are you purchasing? know of any decent deal? So far L@@k and Listen seems the best (Thanks to the courtesy of a kind MyBB member for the up.)

Explains why the ventilation holes on the newer 40Gb SKU is less whilst remaining cooler whilst being quieter at the same time. :)

I saw the CNA advertisement in the Sunday Times. They selling an 80GB (2x controls, GT prologue) for R5199. In interesting to note, is that that 80GB has a silver lining by the cd slot. Other 80GBs have the black lining...

I'm waiting for what Game/Makro has it for..

At look and listen the 160GB stanalone (no bundle) is R5500
The 80 GB with Resistance and Heavenly sword is R5000. He is not sure but think in the pamflet it said two dual shock3 controllers. They just do noy know their products these clowns.

Do not know what Makro is going to offer, nothing listed.
Hifi Corp also have a promotion for R5400.00 Motostorm and Resistance

Unlike PC components the size the components is a Console are not really relevant as they're specifically tuned to perform exactly the same. With the 360 there were reliability problems with the earlier models, but that's not th case with the PS3, I imagine any model would be fine.

True.

But in an effort to bring manufacturing costs down, they inevitably look at using a lower substrate.

The new Xbox also runs with a 65/65 config (think it's called "Jasper").

I would just like the most up-to-date model when I purchase one...

:)

It was rumored that the Cell processors in the third-generation PS3s (40 GB) would move from a 90nm process to the newer 65nm process,[61] which SCEI CEO Kaz Hirai later confirmed.[62] This change lowers the power consumption of the console and makes it less expensive to produce.[61]

There is a table posted on the wiki that compares features between the different models.
