Can I have some recommendations on what / where to buy?
Which one do you use or recommend?
Is pedals a necessity?
How do you rig it or do you just place on Lap?

Budget < Rk2

The Logitech Driving Force GT is not a bad wheel which goes for around R1500.
You do not need to use the pedals, you can use the buttons on the controller, but it does get a bit awkward.

The wheel comes with brackets, you can attach it to a desk or table, the pedals tend to stay still on their own, as long as they're on carpet

The wheel can be seen here: http://www.logitech.com/en-za/gaming/wheels/devices/4172

The Logitech G27 is pretty much the best racing wheel there is, it has everything and it is pretty close to the real thing, as you can imagine, a little out of your target price range at around R3800 or so. That'd be my choice if money wasn't an object.

Does the GT have cables, or is it wireless?
Something wireless, and usable on my lap would be ideal as I don't have a suitable table close to action.

Any suggestions?

You ideally need the wheel strapped to the table dude, aint gonna work sitting in your lap, especially at 150mph :)

I agree with Badbaker and Happy Camper! Less than 2K budget, the Logitech Driving Force GT is most likely the best bet.

I use the Logitech G27 and can recommend it to anyone. 6 Speed shifter and clutch pedal makes a huge difference for the true enthusiast.

Ok, enough wise cracks :)

Got the Driving Force GT, with cables and pedals.

If only I can figure out how to set up with dirt 2 ...... time to google.

Has anyone got Dirt2 working with the Driving Force GT?
I updated game via Internet, downloaded about 68Mb, thus latest patches or whatever should be sorted.

The "Turn Left" and "Turn Right" options remain as per original control set up, when I select to change and turn wheel left or right nothing happens?
When I run the game, all controls on the steering wheel works 100, apart from steering left or right. The pedals also work fine.

Got it sorted :)

Tip to self, ensure the power plug is in all the way !!!!!
