TVersity used to work 100%, however since yesterday I have been having trouble. My PS3 seems to lose connection after streaming video for +- 10 mins. Then I have to switch the PS off and on and then watch another 10 mins or so and it happens again. I have tried to reinstall TVersity, however the problem still remains the same.

I notice that every time it is about to lose connection the sound dissapears and then the video carries on for a few secs then I get a black screen with this error "this content cannot be played (80028801)". Then I stop and try to continue play from TVersity and in the top right hand corner it says "media server error.
dlna protocol error 2104 has occured" and it says that the file content is corrupt or something. Like I mentioned above the only fix seems to restart the PS and then watch for another 10mins.

I have a wireless router, Siemens giga762SX speed is 54Mbps. My TVersity desktop is connected with ethernet, only windows firewall, AVG free - which I don't think will have aany affect.

I installed TVersity using instructions on this forum, viewtopic.php?f=28&t=27398

Thanks,
anarchyrabbit.

An idea .. is TVersity still visible to the PS3 when the playback stops (as in can you go and browse media?) If so .. then the 10 minute thing might be related to the drive spinning down (windows power saving). I had that happen a few times and then just set my PC's power setup to NOT have the drives go to sleep . and ta-da it worked. It could be something wholly unrelated to this too, but that 10 minute thing sounds like a clue.

Yeah, its still visible and I can see all the files. However, when I try to play something I get that error, "media server error. dlna protocol error 2104 has occured" and it says that the file content is corrupt or something. It's just wierd that its all of a sudden. It used to work 100%. I have forgotten to mention, well actually completely for got about it, I have had trouble accessing my desktop PC via the network. I think maybe I should try reinstall my network drivers..

Why not try something different like Playstation Media Server?

I saw PS Media Server on another forum. Is PS Media Server superior to TVersity? I just use TVersity cuz it works, well it did work.

I used to use Tversity, then it works then it does not, same as you. Once I set up windows media player for streaming and PS3 media server I never looked back and then (let me check) Yep uninstalled/deleted Tversity.

/derail

how did you get PS3 Media server to work? My PC doesn't pick up the PS3, even if specify the ip [static - 10.0.0.4 = PS3, 10.0.0.3 = PC],

My Tversity does exactly the same, same errors everything, glad its not only me struggling with this!

It was a while ago but this may help.

Well then maybe you have a network setup issue. Media server as well as WMP works wireless and via network hardwired cable. As said Tversity also worked but had many failings on my system for some odd reason. I must say getting it to work on Win7 was easier than any prior OS.

I first set up WMP if that works then PS3MS will work. If WMP cannot work you have an issue.

Notes:
First thing to make sure you never overlook, is to make sure your running PS3 Media Server as administrator.
This will fix 99.9% of compatibility problems and errors.
Second is to have a static IP set for your PS3 and the rest of your network.
Having static IPs means the IPs you give to a device are always the same, so if you set 192.168.1.103 as your PS3s IP address, it will never change.
Next, make sure you put your PS3s IP in a DMZ zone( http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/networksecurity/g/bld
ef_dmz.htm ).

For questions about setting up a DMZ, you should refer to your routers manual.

Those are the two(2) most common problems one would come a pone when setting up a media server.

OK so I formatted my pc, installed PS Media Server, but still got the same problem - it still stops after a while with the same errors. I checked my power settings on my PC - HDD is set to "never switch off", only sceern set to go off after 30mins. Now I dunno whats up. The only thing I can think of to try is to run a lan cable... *sigh* I guess into the roof I go tomorrow. Just hope it will work.

Before going through all that trouble just first move the pc to the PS3 and test with a short cable. Maybe it is still a network setup problem. Did you run network setup with the PS3 on while the PC is running? What operating system? Did you try WMP streaming?

Not sure if the PC was on when I set the network for the PS, does this matter? Using XP.I have not tried WMP, but I mean I used TVersity and gave the same prob, so don't you think that WMP will do the same?

Sorry, I should mention that I'm a bit of a newb when it cimes to networks.

Yep they all have to be on to find each other as the modem issues an IP address to the PS3 on startup. The fact that it is running and afterward fails indicate to me a router /network/setup problem.

My advise to you is forget XP, if possible go Win7. But on XP it will work if you have the latest drivers for network card/XPSP3/modem firmware/et al.

Read the links below or Google "PS3 media server XP setup"

PS:
also check what errors is given when it fails.
Check the windows paging file size
Check under the traces tab in the PS3 server what message you get when it stops
Also search and check the PS3 server debug.log file for clues.

Seems to me a "buffer" fills then the streaming fails.

Lol, still on SP2 after I formatted, I'm a lazy updater. OK, I will update all the stuff tomorrow and will let you know if it works. Thanks for the help so far. Still just bugs me that this problem just started all of a sudden when it used to work just fine...

OK, I installed SP3, redid the network setup for PS3. It worked for 20mins+ so I think it's working. However, when I try to add an internet connection, I hadn't done it since I changed my router to bridging mode, for some reason it does not want to pick up the media server. It's wierd cuz it only does this when I add my ISP info under the PPPoE setting. The internet works, so I will do the PS3 system update, and hopefully it will sort it out. Once agiain thanks for the advice.

I did the system update for PS and still cannot find media server when connected to the net. As soon as I do my connection setup using "Easy" instead of "Custom" I can access the media server...
