Hi guys,

Finally got a PS3 Slim 320gb model and I have a couple questions.

1 : Is the noise when it's reading discs normal? Sounds like something might be broken or something but the internets say this is to be expected when the game is loading. Anyone experienced this and is it possible to save the game to your hdd?

2. Trying to stream HD stuff to the PS3 over wireless (.mkv format) and it's stuttering badly. Using Plex and SD content seems to be fine. This a media server issue or should I try a cable (not possible but I'll find a way)

3. Exclusives : Got GOW3, Infamous(going to get sequel), GT5 and KillZone 2. Planning on getting the Uncharted series and Little Big Planet 2. Any other exclusives I should know about?

4. PS3 and Bravia Sync? Anyone got this working?

Thanks guys :)

Wipeout. Heavy rain. While not exclusive get rayman origins.

Yip - that won't work very well. HD content sometimes goes over the limit of what WiFi can provide in real-time (well if you are using a/b/g - n might well work - no N-router here so can't confirm).

A good thing to do is , when playing hit the green triangle (think it is that one) - it shows an overlay with the Mbps of the video and audio etc (top right corner). I found that SD is fine, though the intro to Big Bang Theory (in SD) where it zooms through all the pictures sometimes made my playback stutter (over wifi) I think it was hitting 40+mbps for those brief seconds

It is normal when games do the inital load. But is this a new unit? If not, just keep an eye on it.

This is an issue of HD content over WiFi. If you have a spare external drive, it would be better to utilise. There are guides to doing this due to the file system requirements (I'll post a link if you are interested). Other option, downscale to SD (not pretty).

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a classic. I found Heavenly Sword to be quite good for its age. The Resistance series was excellent as an exclusive. Demom Souls is incredibly challenging but rather rewarding. And give Heavy Rain a go. And naturally, Wipeout.

The PS3 does not have many exclusives though, and nothing is better than the Uncharted series. So games like Arkham Asylum, Mass Effect and the Assassin's Creed series are worth a shout.

About the Wifi issue, it's a little inconvenient, but use a cable to connect the PS3 to your router. HD and Wifi isn't the best combo (even n is pushing it).

Signup for Playstation Plus on PSNetwork. Currently running a special think it expires soon. There's loads of free games. I have an original 40Gig Fatboy and no more space to download so I will have to pass:( .

Also Try The Journey

You can swap out the hard drive. Plenty of guides on the net.

Console is brand new..Should I return it and get another? Link me please about using a external and kinda only got the PS3 for media.. Most games I already have on Xbox or on PC.

Router is on the other side of the house and really not looking forward to all the cabling :( but will give it a shot this weekend.

Saw it on some of the HD content. It was sitting at 15mbps I think. Will try Big Bang Theory tonight again.

1. Unfortunately yes. The PS3 Blu-ray drive is very noisy for some reason. It's not so noticable on the older, fat models because the fans run at such high speeds it sounds like a vacuum cleaner anyways. Bothered the crap out of me too at first but you get used to it, and at least it's pretty quiet when actually playing.

2. Unfortunately, the PS3 only has a wireless G (not N) connection, which doesn't have the bandwidth to stream HD content properly. A cable works better. Also, the PS3 doesn't play mkv files natively as far as I know, so Plex transcoding might be contributing to the problem.

3. The best PS3 game in existence is Dark Souls. It's not really an exclusive anymore since a PC version was launched this month, but it's still brilliant. Uncharted is also great, just very linear and more an interactive movie in the begininng. But it gets really nice later on when the action starts. Sort of a mixture of Prince of Persia, Crysis and Gears of War. Also Heavy Rain is worth it, for the story and the way it uses the controller.

4. Don't have a Sony TV, but generally I couldn't get the HDMI-CEC working. It's enabled but the console won't turn on or off with the receiver or TV, and you can't control it with the remote for either of those.

+2
Got some stuttering even with SD content,
Connected the PS3 with a cable and never looked back
