I just read an article on News24 that looks very bad for Sony and the PS3.

We all know a bunch of chinese people bought the PS3's for businessmen who then planned on selling them on the net..

Well here are a few choice quotes

There even appears to be a glut of the much-hyped machines because of schemers who bought it at the Japan launch on Saturday, enduring long lines at retailers especially with hopes of selling it for huge profits.

Noone buying them off the net for higher prices?

But some of the 4 000 PlayStation 3 consoles up for auction on Yahoo! Japan on Wednesday were downright bargains. Some had game software thrown in with the machine, selling near the retail price of about 60 000 yen for the more expensive model with a 60-gigabyte hard drive, and 50 000 yen for the cheaper model.

Ouch

Although Sony had promised 100 000 PS3 machines in Japan on the first day, the count was more like 90 000, and the entire shipment virtually sold out, except for retailers keeping some in stock, Hamamura said.

What do you mean virtually? Only 90 000 units and they didn't sell out????

Almost as soon as PS3 went on sale in Japan, Sony acknowledged that the machine wasn't living up to the promise for total compatibility with preceding platforms, the original PlayStation and the upgrade PlayStation 2.

Old news but I thought I would add it again anyway....

Where are all the PS3 fanboys?

Haha...main reason why I will get myself an Xbox 360 next year. The PS3 hipe was too big and the bloody thing is just too damn expensive. I don't care how many cpu's it has. With the Xbox 360 I can at least make it speak to my PC with Vista installed.

well its simply not worth it,espicially in SA with the price of the PS3 and its games.360 will simply take over the sony/playstation ideal in this country and in other country's,Not to say there wont be any people or fanboys willing to buy it BUT be serious!!! 6k for the machine, games 1K,its going to be one hell of a expensive toy/gadget to have.

of the record i have had the first x-box,PS1 and PS2 and what i have seen of the 360 and PS3 there isnt much of a difference besides a slight difference in graphics.

They delayed the release so many times yet they never tried to fix that "small" error ?

There is nothing more that I would like than for the Sony PS3 Bomb like Hiroshima ( ie ala Big Boy and Littleman).

My analysis is that there will be high initial uptake with an equally sharp tapering off of sales. Only when the price drops SIGNIFICANTLY will there be uptake on the scale of PS and PS2.

If the price comes down significantly and people still opt for other consoles, then its a a major kick in the teeth for sony. I mean how many people have play stations. why wouldn't they buy one if the price comes down....and it will...as the tehnology gets older and manufacturing processes become easier, the products get cheaper.

I on the other hand wouldn't buy a PS3 if it was free and they threw in s3xy japanese chick that you could pork whenever you want!

PS: OH NO!!! for the last day or so my post said I WOULD buy a PS3 when I meant to say WOULDN'T.....I'm so embarressed..have changed it now but I think the damage has already been done..

@Maestr0: You don't need Vista to play nicely, you just need the new Media Player 11 which is a free download.

@Natas: I don't know about free, but the 360 has Rumble Roses and DOAX2 if that's your thing ;)

On a side note, Check Take2. The price of the Wii is comparable the the 360!
Sure its import but I thought it would be dirt cheap.

How does it compare to what they were charging for an imported 360?

Never mind: no Vibration? :( Definitely not interested

Cool can you show me these facts or is this a personal opinion instead?

Seriously go read up what a fact is.

You can't compare previous sales to future sales, the environment has changed considerably.

Their grey imports of the 360 were about R4700 on "special" the list was about R5400, if memory serves (they've taken them off their site) So their imports are pricy. I definitely wouldn't order that.

Nintendo SA reckons it's going to be around R2000-R2800, if you look at the prices on their site and do comparable conversions on the DS lite, the Cube and games etc, the price looks like it should be, surprise surprise ~R2500.

I guess your right ,things have changed over the last 7 years,I am just making an asumption,And yes assuptions is the mother of all f@ck ups
(aaa.. the spelling is putrite)I have to go back to school

It's quite possible the PS3 will suddenly start selling really well but at this point I'm starting to doubt it.

I'm a PS fan but I'm smart enough to see the beginnings of the writing on the wall. Sony has screwed up by delaying the release so many times, doing away with dual shock, their corporate behavior of late and putting their eggs in one single basket.

Shutting down that poor PSP importer was sheer lunacy as Sony has come across as a whiney child and now most of their hopes for the gaming market are linked to Blu-ray and the PS3. I do kinda hope it lives up to all the promises but eish if it doesn't.
