Can anyone please help? I got a PS3 today. I can't use the HDMI for some reason. My PC runs on my HDTV at 1080i but the PS3 doesn't even give a signal on my HDTV via HDMI.

My TV is Full HD 1080p. Can it be that the cable (I also bought today) is not good enough?

connect via composite and check your settings. Is it a new PS3? The first gen didn't default to HDMI.

Try setting your resolution to 576p. If that works, then it indicates that your panel may have a issue.

What TV is it? Your PC shouldn't ever run at 1080i... 720p or 1080p.

I have a Sansui 42" LCD. I think the model number is 4250. According to the specs it is FullHD.
Its got 2x HDMI inputs. My PC using HDMI-2 running at 1080i and my PS3 plugged into HDMI-1 getting no signal.

My PC is running a ATI Radeon HD3850 AGP card.

Well I had a blank screen problem like that before. This probably wont help but reset the console (hold down power for like 5 seconds or something). Thats my 2c

I had the blank screen, fixed it with the component settings as arf9999 suggested. Try the other hdmi port?

wrong. will not work for some blu-rays (none that i know of yet) that require HDCP support, but other than that it works.

wrong. rtfm

If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system.

You can also google this and find tons of forum posts of people bitching that non hdcp monitors can't be used with ps3.

Oh yes you are right. Got confused :p lol but seriously..who reads manuals..

What I did is got component cables (which include R+L audio) then got a RCA coupler to extend the R+L audio to my amp as I was using just a 50" Panasonic plasma monitor (no speakers)

many noobs think (even the sales assistants in the games shops) that component is not HD because it doesn't have the words "HD" in it like "HDMI" does... component cables are HD. up to full hd 1080p. just thought i'd mention that.

but by going the component route, you wont have HDCP support as it is only supported via HDMI cable. but pretty much all bu-rays at the moment don't enforce HDCP yet anyways.. so it's not a problem.. until they do then only you would have to consider getting a new HDCP compliant tv
