According to information on the Irish version of the official PlayStation 3 website, the 60GB version of the console will launch in the territory priced at EUR 629.99 - EUR 30 more than previously announced.

Text on the "Price" section of the website also suggests that the 20GB model will retail for EUR 529.99. However, it will not be available "at launch" in Ireland.

Back in May 2006 at Sony's pre-E3 conference, it was announced that the PS3 would cost EUR 499 / 599 in Europe, and the other EU territory sites still feature these price points.

link.

Full Report from Gamesindustry.biz.

More lies from Sony? Sigh.

Could this maybe be because Ireland has a 21% VAT Rate? Unlike Germany and the UK where it is around 16-17.5%? So if it sells for EUR500 in Germany it will sell for around EUR530 in Ireland. Or does that not make sense to the sony hateboiz...

Still the VAT difference for Ireland wont make it any cheaper for SA... currently Animeworx said it could be around R5800... but nothing is finalised as yet coz Ster Kinekor dont have a fixed price.

Could be, do you know where I can check the price of the Xbox 360 in Ireland compared to Germany?

Edit: The Xbox 360 is 10 Euro more in Ireland. So you may have a point. But 30 Euro more does seem a bit harsh....
So we should be cheaper because our VAT rate is 14%? What? Stop laughing :D
