PS3 Price Drop!!

That still doesn't explain how those stats are related to time...

Not sure what you want to know then...

What they're basically saying is that, for this week, the PS3 has been the number 1 seller from the game consoles. They don't show numbers or anything else.

It's the number one seller because the price dropped. So a bunch of people who were waiting for the expected drop rushed out and bought. It doesn't mean the PS3 is now more popular than the WII. I suspect that the PS3 will drop again, but hopefully not all the way back to it's previous dismall levels. It should be able to hold it's own with the 360 now, assuming they get the games issue sorted.

The entire console industry is just depressing me lately. It's like a competition as to who can do the worst job amongst Sony and MS. Sony completely misunderstands the market, drops games in favour of movies and comes in late and way, way too expensive. Microsoft gets the games and features absolutely right, but decides to make their box out of the cheapest components they can possibly find leading to a 1 in 3 failure rate. Based on the critical mistakes each one has made their rival should have been able to utterly wipe them out. Except of course, they were too busy making their own critical mistakes.

At least ENATIS only cost us like $100 million. MS is losing $1.3 BILLION on their screw ups. And who knows how much money Sony is going to lost on the PS3.

Good point GougedEye, now with MS' new manufacturing process of 65nm chips and their 3 year warranty the failure rates should drop unless its idiot people stuffing the consoles up.

IMO the PS3 has to drop even further in price to sell better, perhaps Sony will feel the pinch and return with the 20GB model afterall?

The added warranty will definitely make consumers less concerned about buying one.

I wonder if Nintendo could be selling more if they could manufacture the Wii faster?

@Noxi - I'm sure they would, but the scarcity is also a marketing ploy - like making people wait in a cue outside an empty club, makes them want it more.

As far as the PS3 sales spike goes, it's expected and we'll see in a month or two if it pays off long term. By Sony's own admission, the price drop on the PSP caused a sales spike, but with 2/3 months they were back to where they were.

Actually the PSP has been selling better than expected this year, long after the price cut, so I'd like to see where Sony admits that it's now back to where they were?

That's exactly what I wanted to know... thanks!

Thats not bad. How much would those two titles & an extra gamepad cost you normally?

R500 per game and R400 for the controller I think...

So a saving of R1400 which is good... if you want those games.

Real numbers
Resistance: R545
Motorstorm: R539
SIXAXIS: R479
= R1563... like I said a good saving but I think a price cut would have been a better idea.

Now we are going to have to live with people saying the attachment rate only when up because they bundled these two.
And we are going to have to listen to Sony going on and on and on about how well these two games did...

How can you be absolutely postivie that we'll get the PS3 starter kit over here?

So far we have got everything that Europe got... I don't see why that should change now...

Not 100% positive though, we just have to wait and see for official confirmation

Yes we do. Have you got any other sources about this 'starter pack' than that one site?

Actually Peter Moore put it pretty well.

<doobi's fanboy paraphrase>

"Sony BS flag! It's not a price drop. The PS3 has always cost $499 & $599. All they've done is a minor feature upgrade of the 20Gb & 60Gb units".

the 20Gb unit gets a minor HDD buff and WiFi.
the 60Gb unit gets even less of an HDD buff and a pack-in.

</doobi's fanboy paraphrase>

But Peter's far more the gentleman than me. ;)

Just as with MS with the Xbox 360 bundles? ;)

Anybody recall how Rebel Assault was bundled with everything from a toaster to a new car by Lucasarts? It became the #1 CD game of all time!

Desperate times call for desperate measures. ;)
