I bought a PS3 the other day. I bought it for my neighbor through a connection that I have at work. It doesnt work in that when I plug the AV cable into the tv, I get nothing. No video adn no sound. Needless to say, I didnt get a receipt or anything. While my connection has offered to give me the money back, I would prefer to sort it out on my end. I was wondering what Ster Kinekor's return policy is on faulty PS3's. Its brand new, turns on just fine, just no sound and picture.

What can I do and who can I call, please give me telephone numbers if you have.

Not sure - try ps3za.co.za

Also - I think if youl hold the on button for a view seconds from when its off, it resets the PS3 to default settings.

Make sure he didn't sell you the "grill" version ;) ...

Sure he didn't sell you the "grill" version ;) ...

huh? pray tell what the grill version is!?!? having never picked up the controller of ANY Sony gaming product until last night, I have no idea what you're talking about!!

im also suspecting the cable.

oh and the "grill" version was created as a mercy mission by sony to aid people who lost they kitchens when theyre houses were burned to the ground by xbox360s going supernova :D I hear sonys releasing a "4 man tent" version in anticipation of NXE.

but seriously though, if you have a pal with a ps3, borrow his cable and try it out; to be double-lee sure use a working AV machine (eg dvd player) to ensure that the tvs AV inputs are functioning properly

most devices recommend checking faulty cables when troubleshooting. cant say much cos i've personally never had a problem with cables but its worth a looksee regardless

Rule of thumb...check the cables and plugs first and then swap the cables out with a mates and then check again.
Check all settings and make sure that your TV is compatible with settings.

Does Sony have a PS3 support helpline?

If all the above fails...well...get your money back! :D

Have you tried setting the PS3 default av settings?

Thats the thing where you hold the power button down when switching it on? If so, then I done tried that already!

Am seriously hoping its the AV cable. Tried both AV slots on my TV. But like I said something funky went down the first time he plugged the AV cable into HIS tv.. but then afterwards nothing, so hoping its teh cable and that!

Ok did you hold the on button till it beeped. Cos your suppose to switch it on then you hear a beep then you keep your on the button till you hear it beep again did you do that? Also if it's the cable if you have a ps2 that you know works just swap the cables and try :)

MMmmmmm, the guy I bought it for has a PS2 and the cable was right there, but didn't think about that!!! : (

What an idiot I am!

Not sure how I did it this a.m., but it beeped only once.... I think. The guy I got it from is taking it home this evening. I'll tell him to do that stuff over the phone!!

From stand-by (red light) hold the power button down (while on the composite input with composite plugged in) for about 5-10 seconds until you hear a second beep. This restores the PS3 to factory resolution settings.

Now that I think about it, it might just be the cable. Because, when I go onto the correct AV channel, my TV tells me "NO SIGNAL" even after the PS3 has undergone the process of onification..... surely this means that its the cable. If there was something wrong with the PS3 and not the cable, I get something? instead I dont get sound or picture!
