Anyone got a recommendation for a decent place for repairs to a PS# in Cape Town?

Been runing on a normal cable, used an HDMi cable on the weekend on another screen - now i get nothing. Tried a different cable to no avail - TV seems in order and recieving via that channel with my mobile. Tried a couple of different AV slots as well.

no issue man, your ps3 just thinks its booting up to an HDMI source so just reboot it. i think holding the power button for more than 5 seconds will reboot into factory default settings and this will enable you to use your normal avi output

edit: btw you will lose all your saved games etc...

hmmm i think theres a way to back up your saved games to harddrive?not sure but you can google it

Cool - going to give this a whizz and will feedback wether i got some joy - shot for the answers.

Had the same issue. Your ps3 thinks its still connected to hdmi. I called the 0861 number and they explained to me how to rest the unit. After the reset it worked just fine.

Thought I don't think it does a full factory reset - you shouldn't loose your games.

Sorted - this worked and did not lose saved games

Thanks to poorestguy for ending three days of depression :)

Power down PS3, (slim in standby) and then just hold power button on PS3 until you hear second beep/s.
PS3 will auto detect output sources, confirm what you want to use and that's it.

You will not lose any savegames, I have done this before aswell.
The factory reset/save mode/rebuild option will basically format your hdd, and thus losing your savegames.

Although going from a 50 odd inch high def screen to my piddly little old school box has taken the edge off :)

New TV imminent :D

yup!i went and bought a 42inch 200hz lcd 2 months after i experienced the joys of hdmi out on my ps3 :D sadly my blu ray player has sorta given up on me, its weird cause when my ps3 heats up (it make a loud noise like some internal fan is spinning like crazy) then i can play games.but i can't play any blu ray (movie or game) when its cool.new blu ray replacement is about 1k so yeah contemplating new ps3 or fixing current one.choices!

Thanks to poorestguy and A3@MBB for the reset suggestion! I bought a PS3 160GB slim from Incredible connection in Kimberley yesterday and when I got home last night, the console would not display via Normal or HDMI outputs. Thought it was an OOB failure.
The reset did the trick and it is working now. Seems to be a Demo unit which the powered up and tested and put back into the box.

In Addition to the Blu-Ray Replacement, You should also reapply Thermal Paste on the GPU (RSX) and CPU (Preferably with Silver Thermal Compound) for the dramatic Increase in the speed of the fan is an early symptom of your console overheating. This is as a result of a failure in the Thermal Conducting Paste. It could eventually lead to YLOD.
