Hi All
Need some advise:

I purchased a PS3 slineline 120 gig for my son and know nothing about setup.

I firstly want to connect this to my televison via the DVD player.

I have a Sony Bravia LCD connected to a Sony Bravia DVD home entertainment unit (very basic, not component system) with Bravia Sync HDMI via a HDMI cable. What I would like to know is, can i plug the PS3 into the DVD player via the HD ports and then from teh DVD player to the televesion via HD port so that the sound is played through both TV and home theartre speakers?

I do not know the specs or model number of the HDMI DVD player, will get that tonight when i get home. Please advise.

Also, a friend of mine is in Germany at the monet and says that the PS3 games are quite cheap. What i need to know though is, will the games work in the PS3 i purchased here?

Anxiously awaiting repsonse.

Regards

Hi, do you mean can you connect your PS3 to your DVD player via HDMI? Does the DVD player have an HDMI in? If yes, then i'm sure you can, even though i personally haven't tested this particular setup.

As far as the games question, the PS3 wrt games is completely region free, so you can import away!

I am taking a shot in the dark here assuming you have a home theatre system with a built in DVD player.

If this is the case, you are unlikely to be able to connect the PS3 to the system with the HDMI cable. You will probably need to connect the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV for the video, and then hope that your home theatre system has an optical audio in connection. You can then connect the optical port on the PS3 to the optical on the home theatre.

If you can post the model number of your system that would make it easier for us to assist.

I assume that these are those home entertainment units that have a built in amp in the DVD player. ie. the speakers are connected to the DVD unit. The only way to get sound through the DVD player is to check there is an optical in port at the back of the DVD player. You will also need to use the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV for the video and then an optical cable from the PS3 to the DVD player.

I did exactly what gifs and RPG_Fan said in their posts. I too only have one of those all-in-one dvd surround sound systems. Connected HDMI to Bravia TV, and connect sound via optical to the surround sound system.

Hi there, I'm also a PS3 Newbie, got mine yesterday :) What I'm doing is using it as a multimedia player instead of my Iomega, so gave this one to my parents. I can see the drive and all the movies on it.. thing is my better quality movies are ripped from my dvd's into various vob files... now these i have to keep selecting each vob file to play one after the other, i cant seem to access the movie main menu or make the files play one after the other :( Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also my manual isn't in english so I could not look up anything in it... anyone know of a link to an english one?

Hi All
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all teh advise....

I said i was going to share the model number with you but i forgot to take it down...

Will definately check tonight and let you know....

HI All
So the first thing i did was go home and write down the model number of my dvd player, it is DAV-DZ270 Sony.

So yes, i have an optical in on TV and DVD so your guys advise will work, thank you very much.

Now, i have not received a HDMI cable with my slimline but the normal AV cables.

Can i plug the AV cables in from PS3 to DVD then HDMI cable from DVD to TV? then ofcourse, the optical from DVD to TV. What would the quality be like? Or should i rather just get another HDMI cable for PS3 to DVD.

When I got my console I used the AV cables....for 2 hours. Get the HDMI cable, you wont regret it. Even just the menu blew my mind when I plugged in the HDMI cable.

Personally, I would HDMI directly to the TV and Optical Out directly into the DVD player. To channel the video through the DVD player to the tv just adds extra confusion. So your TV will be tuned to the HDMI input channel and your DVD player will be tuned to the Optical in/Digital in channel, so you'll see picture on the TV, but hear the sound on the DVD player. This is obviously all dependant on you having 2xHDMI inputs on your TV...if you don't, well then you are going to have to route your PS through your DVD player into the TV.

Hope I made any sense.

Well, i have 2 HDMI ports on the TV and on DVD...

My thinking was to get the sound to play on TV and DVD when playing games or watching movies.... i.e. ps3 to dvd then dvd to TV for video with sound from DVD player to TV via optical....

your thoughts?

Me too! I plugged in the HDMI cable and changed the settingso the ps3 to be at the maximum full HD etc... WOW, the background and everything just lit up!

ok, so i found that i only have 1 HDMI port on DVD so i cant plug PS3 into dvd via HDMI cable, and then from dvd to TV via HDMI.

However, can i buy the componenet cable which is HDMI to AV from PS3 to DVD and then HDMI to HDMI to TV? I will need to get an optical cable from DVD to TV though is it?

Will this work?
