Hi,

I'm going to try set up my brothers PS3 wifi for him on the weekend. I tried last week, but gave up - so now I'm going to try be more prepared for the next week!

Firstly he doesn't want internet on the PS3 ; he'll only use it to stream movies and music - so internet connection can be off from what I understand?

I've set up a static IP on his Netgear AP and setup the encryption. The PS3 picks up the network, signal strength and encryption. The PS3 does see the network - but won't connect to it. I've set a static IP on the PS3 as well - but the PC won't ping it. I'd guess it *see's* the network - but won't actually connect to it!

The second issue is software. I can use WMP on his Vista machine - or do I need TVersity again? If WMP, but buttons and setting to I click?

Thanks

Very weird situation that the PS3 won't connect to the network.
Have you tried disabling all encryption to see if it will connect then?

As for the software, Windows Media Player and TVersity work fine. In WMP all you should have to do is enable media sharing in the settings and allow the ps3 to share.

However I have had some streaming problems with both of those applications and would rather suggest you use 'PS3 Media Server"

They needa 'CONNECT TO NETOWRK'' button ;)

Stupid question (I don't have the PS3 ...) - but do I make it connect?

I have had quite a bad experience streaming content to the PS3. Yes it works but in general the speed was too slow and unstable for my needs. Bought a few cables today and going to setup a normal network.

Software - Tversity works the best but you can use Windows Media Player as well. Just make sure the correct codecs are installed.

If you've set up your network correctly, then the PS3 should automatically connect and find the media server. In this case since there is no internet, every time you run the connection test on the PS3 it will fail when it tries to go online.

So all you gotta do is make sure the PS3 and PC are on the same network and as long as there is a media server running, the PS3 should find it and add it to its menu.

(Make sure you have Media Servers enabled in the PS3's settings)

Thanks Pepper.

Exactly what happens ; I'll try the Media Server settings

I was streaming from a vista box via WMP to my PS3 with a proper Cad5 network cable. It does work but at times the movies jerk. Nw i have all my movies on a 1TB Hdd pluged strait into the PS3 via usb 100% better
and the PS3 plays all my avi files
