Ok, this has probably been asked 10000000 times but which one would you guys recommend?

And why you recommend it?

What exactly would I use a 40GB HDD in a PS3 for?

imo, the only reason i would buy a ps3 is because of the blue ray dvd player

but i have a xbox 360 pro, and am totalling enjoying it....

...i guess it would come down to preference

ps: as with the xbox, i think the hdd is for downloads, game saves, movies etc

ps3
+free online
+ couple of good exclusives but lots coming
+blu ray
+FW 2.40 is coming out soon which levels it with xbox more as a gaming machine
-expensive
-less games than xbox

xbox
+lots and lots of games
+cheaper if you just use it for games
+lots of exclusives
-not a very long life xbox 720 coming 2010
-RROD

Personally I play on a Xbox 360 and a Wii, but the PS3 is not bad at all.

I've had a PS2, but the usual PS exclusives never appealed to me, except final fantasy, but even that i didnt enjoy with their more recent endeavours.

I didnt know what the Xbox 360 exclusives were, but it seemed the smarter choice to buy as it arrived in SA with a nice game range already, but that is now almost equalised with the PS3 (mainly because i think that a lot of the early/cheap 360 games were generic trash hehe)

Xbox360!!

Can get 2 1/2 for the price of a PS3 :)

and ignore the RRoD thing on the Xbox ....... thats only older units :D

I reckon that a PS3 is a better bet... I got one for the price of a Xbox brand new in hong kong....

Blu-ray will eventually become the norm and also the games coming out now for the PS3 are getting better and better...

Never mind the issue of only having a 40gig hard drive, it tells you in the manual how to install a bigger hard drive if you want to, perfect if you want to use the PS3 as a home media server / entertainment hub...

Blue ray will become the norm, and blue ray will become cheaper. Whatsup with all the blue ray?

Who cares about blue ray? I care about gaming!!! Theres a reason they call it a gaming console and not a movie console.

Multimedia centre, ill stick with my pc.

Do PS3 games have texture tearing like most XBOX games have?

Xbox :) Simply because of the games. They are far better and in a much larger supply than PS3 games. Sure, the PS3's games are "still coming," but the Xbox already has a load and it too still has many on the way.

Xbox Live is also much better than the Playstation Network. The latter may be free, but you get what you pay for. Simply put, Xbox Live is better supported and has much better features.

Apart from that, it's cheaper and the failure rate is a thing of the past in most cases thanks to the newer versions on the market. I'd say go for it. If anything happens, you get to swap your old one for a new one in-store and keep your hard drive :D

xbox 360, since it came out a while ago, you can have lots of good games in the pre-owned section. Got myself an xbox 360 beginning of June, I managed to collect more than 12 games already for R200 average per game. Gears of War, Rainbown Six, Halo 3, PGR4, Forza 2 etc...

Budget wise and gaming wise I will suggest the xbox360. I will get a PS3 probably when it become cheaper and affordable. At that time that will give me leverage to buy lots of games in the pre-owned section. For now I'm just too busy with the xbox360 :-)
