So I get home this morning after upgrading my Adsl line speed and give it a go to see all works - turn on, play 20 minutes to check and turn off again.

Pop through an hour later and doesn't work. The control turns the machine on and the amp gets the signal - but then seems to cycle on/off and nothing appears on the screen.

Tried safe mode - nadda

Anyone heard of something similar?
Battle to get swapped out?

Eish sorry to hear.
I think most swap outs went okay. The only issues afik were there weren't controllers, etc in stock.

This is not my night, eh.

Nah, seems the lights are functioning normally. IN other words the orange strip in standby and the white strip when 'on'. The thing is 'on' just turns the T back light on and off or amp DTS / default cycle. Almost like if you have a boot error on your PC and it tries to start - get's 5 seconds into and restarts again in that loop.

Yea I came to that link as well - think that may be it :/

Have you tried removing and reinserting the HDD? If it is a failed boot up, that would be the place to look.

Try:

Power off your PS4 by pressing the power button until the PS4 powers off. You know the PS4 is off when the light is off. Be certain the PS4 is off before you continue.

Unplug all of the cables from the PS4. This includes the power cable, HDMI cable, USB cable, optical cable, etc.

Plug in the power cable and no other cable. That’s right, do not plug in the HDMI cable yet.

Press the power button until the PS4 beeps twice. It will beep, then beep again in a few seconds. A few seconds later, the blue light will turn white! If it does not, this PS4 Blue Light of Death fix will not work for you.

Next, I plugged in the HDMI cable while the PS4 was displaying the white light and the TV was on. WARNING: Connecting the HDMI port while the TV or the PS4 is on may cause damage to the TV or PS4. Follow these instructions at your own risk!!!!

An alternative method would be to first turn off the PS4 and turn off an unplug the TV. Connect the HDMI cable to the PS4 and the TV, Power on the PS4 by holding the power button until it beeps twice, see the white light, THEN plug in and turn on the TV.

A third option would be to select a different source on your TV, see the white light on the PS4, then select the appropriate HDMI source on the TV. Please note that I have not tested any of these alternative methods as I do not currently have a BLOD PS4 near by.

Also, try unplugging the power plug then repeatedly press the on to try an remove charge build up, then plug it back in and try again.

This also sounds like your issue,

So I haul out the boxes etc and just before I get ready to take it back, I turn it on - it works ... I'm going to have an problem telling them it is bust - so not going back today :/ I do have a year, I think?

I had similar issue like yours with my PS4, the problem was very inconsistent.. some days it will go on fine, others not. I sent mine back and got a replacement.

The problem started with mine since I first switched it on after unboxing and a month later I replaced it as it became an annoyance.

Yea if it does it again it is going in. Where did you buy it?

The want the box and everything, or just the console ok? I remember with my Xbox they told me to keep everything and just hand in the console

EDIT : I must say I HATE warranty swap outs in South Africa. I often read stories from abroad on all products and they literally just hand over whatever needs to be replaced. Here it seems to be a huge issue
