PS4 media player launches

MKV support, and it can see my plex server. I'm sorted..

Except for that cinavia I'm sure the player has it :sad:
 
Nice start, but only semi useful so far.
1. The aspect ratio in some of my older rips are broken. I could re-rip, its just a pain.
2. No DTS passthrough or decoding :(

It's the last missing piece of the puzzle. My raspberry pi is doing most of my local media playback. The PS4 rocks for BBC Iplayer and Netflix.

I am new to PS4. Why if I am busy downloading and I switch to watching tv, the PS4 switches off before the dl has completed?

Depending on your settings the ps4 will go into rest mode (more like standby) after a set time and it can continue downloading in the background while it's in this mode. Check this link for the settings

So depending on your settings it can continue downloading whatever is in the downloads queue while in rest mode
 
Well it's a media player and that's all. I wish you could get Kodi on the PS4 :(
 
I have tried multiple movies and have had only about a 60% success rate. This is mostly with MKV movies.

I'll stick with my PLEX pass for now, as it plays everything flawlessly.

Is that with using the Plex server as the media source still?

Yes, I'm running Plex server on my mac mini and it serves the PS4 and Xbox 360 with their own native apps.

It costs about R60 a month to do it, but I can download any format and it just plays. You also get cool things like playing your music or access to music videos via Vevo. The interface is also much nicer than the stock players of both the 360 and PS4.

How do you get access to BBC Iplayer? Do you need to create a UK PS account? Would I need to switch my region between USA and UK if I go between Netflix USA/Hulu and Iplayer?

Create a second dummy account on your PS4, with the region set to uk. Install Netflix, Iplayer etc.
After it's done, you can launch the apps with your regular user.
