PS4 Released Date

PS3 still has a good few years of life left in it..

The Next gen consoles are still 3 - 5 years away.

I guess time will tell! And although I agree that there is still alot the ps3 can still do but in the link I post they saying that the reason for the launch of the ps4 is because of the lack of memory available on the ps3. Now I dont know how true this is because the ps3 was launched about 10years ago and it could be just that. I am hoping the ps4 is not going to be launched because I recently bought a ps3 which means it would be kind of a waist lol

Not going to happen..

Sony has taken a financial BEATING with the PS3... and its only just about started to break even from what I know... their shareholders would not be approving them phasing out something that is now profitable for something that will have to be a lossleader..

2013/2014 are the earliest we will see the PS4.... we might start seeing more concrete rumours and information this year, but thats abou tit.

IMHO Sony would be foolish to ship the next generation to late again after the opposition. There is no reason why the PS4 cannot co-exist with the PS3 and the PS2 get dropped. Look how well this concept works with cell phones and other modern consumer electronics. All that's required to be maintained must be backwards compatibility.

+1 I think they learnt their lesson, iirc they only started making a profit about 2 years ago.

I'm interested to see how the PS Vita does. Too closely named to Vista for my liking.

Very definitely agree... but the next xbox is only expected in 2013, so its about spot on for Sony to release the next PS as well in that time frame... they may be later than MS, but not a year later like they were with the PS3

To have backwards compatibility they'd have to either simply a release a faster version of the same design or something fast enough to emulate the old design. I doubt they'd build in an entire PS3 (the backward compatible PS3 models included all or part of the PS2).

Not sure how comparable the co-existence of multiple console generations is to other types of devices.

The main problem with the original PS3 was that the PS2 hardware was so completely different. The PS4 would most probably be based on the same chip-set, just more advanced and powerful with many more cores and bigger memory, so the backwards compatibility should not be an issue at all.

Correct. So far rumours point to an upgraded cell being used. Only fly in the ointment is that it's rumoured that all the next gen consoles will use AMD for GFX. Having to swop from nVidia may cause issues.

Right well even is they take forever to bring the PS4 does anyone have the new specs? or is it just slight memory improvements on the old PS3 base?

It's going to be 6-10times as powerful as the PS3.

Probably use a vastly updated cell cpu and from rumours so far ATI for GFX. This would be bad for backwards compatibility. So I'm actiually hoping it's wrong and it's nvidia.

Sony Cancelled the future release of the PS4 and have cancelled development. I read in an article a week or two ago. They are having some income issues and stopped the development on the PS4. Hopefully it is just a play to see if Microsoft will be slow to release their next gen console so they can have first release.

Whoever releases first will win like it was in 2003/4.

I also think that Sony should have taken the offer from MS when they attempted to buy their console dept for Billions. now they are uncertain of their future.

Sony and MS should come together, forget about the handheld market (they missed that boat when the Itouch/Pad launched) and come up with an uber super gaming/ media console we will all enjoy, it should be cheaper, no need for developers and the sorts to make 2 different types of every thing.

Firstly, it's just a rumour. Secondly, development is on hold, not cancelled. Thirdly, if true it's a good thing. Current top hardware is halfway between photorealistic and amazing and the ultra capacity Blu-rays aren't ready yet. Numerous developers have said there is no need for a PS4 as costs are already high and the full potential of the PS3 has yet to be realised. I don't mind waiting a few years for the 'final solution' to gaming.

What can the PS4 possibly offer above the current PS3 that would justify the launch price of R6000+?

While Sony has not released any official information concerning the system's future launch

Ergo, entire article is a waste of time. Also gotta love the fanboyism:

n fact Sony states that games currently on the market are not even close to pushing the system to its full potential

Referring to the PS3 of course.
