PS5

I think if your ps4 survived in there the ps5 will be absolutely fine.

Here's mine, although I'm not in the hot area of the world atm I can definitely feel hot air around that section, it has worried me and as AJ says it will circulate the hot air, so I've considered maybe taking a saw to the back area and opening it up a bit more but don't really want to ruin the look so, meh just leaving it for now

Whenever I walk past mine; whilst I've been killing hookers and drug dealers in GTA - it's been noticably warm near it. As far as 3 - 5 cm I'd say. It positioned much like yours, too. I don't worry about it though. It must just do what it must.

As with all things I suspect the truth is somewhere inbetween.

I can totally see how over time gravity could cause some of the liquid metal to migrate downwards and cause dry spots but it's also obviously not going to cause much harm for the majority of cases.

Tronicsfix has opened up a lot of PS5s showing dry spots on the APUs, you can't be sure what that's caused by but gravity certainly is a possible scenario.

Another reason for me to go for a slim "refresh". Gotcha :D
Mine been standing from day one.

The slim still uses liquid metal though.

I've had my launch model horizontal since day 1 only because I don't have space for it to stand vertically.

Also have it like that, above the receiver. Can definitely feel the warm air as you walk past. But my reasoning is that if you're feeling it, it means the warm air is escaping.

Xbox blows about the same amount of warm air, and it's noisier. And it's sitting inside one of the doors which stays open while playing, and it's been fine all this time.

I wouldn't stress about ventilation as long as the air has a means of escaping...

Unplug, Wait 2 mins.
Plug back in.
Press and hold power button till after 3 beeps = Safe mode
After you enter safe mode Reboot

The only time I've seen that message is when the power went off while the PS5 was on...do you keep it in rest mode? I think it says repairing database...

Also seems there are some people that have gotten it out of the '3 beeps of death', if what @AlphaJohn suggested doesn't work:

Thanks guys, that worked! Just to add, have your Dualsense connected via cable first (first time I tried it told me to do this and then shut down again - second time it booted straight into safe mode) and choose option 7 when in safe mode (second from last, as per reddit thread).

That saved me about R14k, so owe you two a beer :)

All good, know how I felt 1st time I saw that.

Glad you sorted.

I do seem to have lost some saves with BG3 though - it asked me if I wanted to load from PS5 or Cloud storage and I chose Cloud (stupidly?) - but it seems last game that backed up there was 30 November. So I might have lost 5 days play... :(

What steps are you going to take to avoid this happening during future loadshedding

A word of warning - I think this might be because I just picked up the habit of closing down the game by just turning the PS5 off directly. So while the SSD might save the game, the cloud storage seems not to be updated.

I'm a dumbass....

What SSDs have you gotten to upgrade your storage? I'm getting super tired of deleting games.

Looking at this at the moment:

I got this

literally any NVME gen4 drive will work.

so I would go a mix of capacity, reputation, speed, cost - duh, that's quite obvious :D

The one you linked looks perfect
Nope, there are some minimum requirements with regards to read/write speeds, not all will work
