Sony cancels an unannounced live service God of War game

ust a couple of years ago, Sony had a dozen new live service games in development, but that number keeps dropping. It was already down to six by the end of 2023, before the well-received launch of Helldivers II and the disaster that was Concord in 2024. Now, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has confirmed with Sony that two unannounced live service projects have been canceled.

Sony! Sony! Sony! Just stop now, stick to single player games, you're really good at that but live-service is NOT for you

I mean if you keep making the same game over and over again you can get good at it.

but live-service is NOT for you

They already have several successful live service games, including one of the best selling games of 2024...I don't think they will stop approaching it anytime soon

I get what you're saying though, glad these got canned because BP is one of the most technically skilled studios out there, putting them on a GaaS title was really stupid. At least they only wasted 2 years....Bend is way worse

Bend is way worse
I'm not too sure why Bend was involved with a live-service game, what we gamers or let say, PS gamers really wanted was a Days Gone 2 as with BP, last I heard they were working on a completely new and original IP, I just assumed it would be a single player title.

Making single player developers create live service games is such a bad idea and I don't understand how these companies keep forcing this. It already lead to the death of Arkane Austin, Rocksteady and Bioware too. They lose all the talent who do not want to make these kinds of games.

Imagine if this Sony GAAS nonsense didn't happen.

We could have had Intergalactic at the end of the year and Days Gone 2 + Horizon 3 next year.

I blame Jiimy boy for ****ing up this gen.

Anyway. My wife wants to do the new season of Diablo 3. Anyone got a character for this season that can carry me through some rifts so I can level up fast?

Why 3?

Execs don't care, they just want the squiggly line to go up

But Rocksteady is different. Management wanted more of the same, the main devs are the ones that wanted a live service suicide game. Then bailed after a few years .

Sure thing...there's a lot of stuff we don't know about that goes on between these decisions. I also think it was said ND actually wanted to do Last of Us Online, so it wasn't necessarily pushed on them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Thinking of it now, they should've had Bend support them on that and hand it over eventually, I still think a TLOU online game would be very successful.

Yeah, there is a lot that is hidden. I recall the main dev for bend wanted to have Days Gone 2 be a co-op and Sony said no, then he left the company.

I still blame Jimmy, you have one of the greatest devs in the world, and you make them do gow live service. **** that.

Biggest problem with live service is there are only so many people on the planet and each of those has limited time to give to any one GaaS game. So how much value is there really left to extract anymore, just doesn't seems like a line go up strategy anymore.

There's guys who do nothing but play CoD, Destiny etc. going all the way back to WoW. But those guys got in early and captured whatever market there was for it, it's very difficult to get in now and compete with them...

Phantom Blade Zero Fans Should Circle January 21 on Their Calendars

Phantom Blade Zero will be having a gameplay showcase trailer premiering on January 21 that highlights the strengths of its mechanics. Many gamers are excited to get their hands on Phantom Blade Zero, which in all available footage has shown off combat that looks impossibly slick, comparable to what games in previous generations used to need cutscenes and quick time events to achieve. People want to see if the full release holds up to the idea that's been shown.
