PS5

What are the latest rumors around a new ps5 release date? Should I wait or should I buy a PS5 slim?

In re-reviewing our recent interview with Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, we have found several significant errors and inaccuracies that don't represent his perspective and values (including topics such as animation, writing, technology, AI, and future projects). We apologize to Neil for misrepresenting his words and for any negative impact this interview might have caused him and his team. In coordination with Naughty Dog and SIE, we have removed the interview.

The PS5 is Sony's most profitable PlayStation console generation ever.

Sony just held its Business Segment Meeting for 2024, in which the company presented the slide below (via Automaton Media). The slide reveals that between when the PS5 launched in late 2020 and now, it's generated $106 billion in sales, and a total operating profit of $10 billion, making it the most successful PlayStation console ever.

Phil Spencer Confirms More Xbox Games Are Coming to Other Platforms

During a new IGN First interview, Spencer again addressed the neverending rumors, but with a completely different answer from the first time. “You are going to see more of our games on more platforms, and we just see that as a benefit to the franchises that we’re building, and we see that from players, and the players love to be able to play,” Spencer said.

The answer was a complete 180 from the one from a few months back, and while company plans always change, Xbox’s strategy is still unclear in the grand scheme of things. Apparently, all of these decisions are part of Xbox’s “Project Latitude,” which, as far as the most recent rumors go, consists of games being “considered” for rival platforms. So, basically, Project Latitude doesn’t mean much to anyone until the green light has been given on said games, including the players and the developers behind the games.

This is a good thing. And games need to be ported to different OS so I'm pretty sure that's long already been happening under the hood which is partly why this will play out over time.

PS guys love their racing games they will eat up Forza and Halo and Gears will sell well too.

Just dump the hardware they are not selling any anyway. S is keeping tech back and PS5 Pro will be lapping the X soon.

Now if only Sony would wake up and release more games on PC faster then all would be well with the world.

Don't know if they should be giving up hardware, for no other reason than helping to keep pricing in check. I don't want to pay R25k for a PS6 because there wasn't an alternative that may have sold their next-gen system for R17k...

The problem is unlike MS, Sony still wants to keep people buying hardware. Every PS5 sale they lose is a potential loss greater than just the hardware price, don't forget they make 30% on all purchases within the ecosystem, it's no different than how Steam makes money, they will not want to lose people willingly.

Putting their tentpole exclusives on PC day and date will affect their hardware sales, they need to keep a balance that's healthy for their business. At best I can see them moving the 2 year timeline earlier, maybe 1 year or so.

The PC games they release sell quite well and is a huge ROI. These games have already made their money on PS5, PC is just extra money for them really.

This is just FUD. Sony isn't gonna release a R25k PS6 because people will just buy a PC (or stick to PS5), come on now.

Sony will release a 24k console since the only alternative is a 25k PC…..
