PS5

Mine is maybe 10-20% louder than my old PS5, it's negligible in terms of real world use.

For a 10k upgrade I'd say it's worth it for 1st party alone, never mind GTA6 etc. Next few years is gonna be baller

Wait. Are we saying GTA6 is going to run better on the pro instead of the standard PS5?

It will definitely look better, whether it will run better I'm not sure about that. I suspect it will be 30fps across the board on console, both on the professional and the amateur.

I’m not convinced it will. I’ll wait until the game is actually out and see. Then decide if the upgrade is worth it.

Even Astrobot looks better lol.

Loving my Pro. Hope the new PSSR upgrades are in time for GTA6 because the latest update this week was promising.
According to a conversation I recently had with Cerny, the new tech "is a drop-in replacement for the current PSSR" that should be straightforward for developers to accommodate when it arrives on PS5 Pro consoles in 2026.

Cerny claims he expected Project Amethyst to take years to generate a significantly better upscaling algorithm, and was surprised when the team did it in roughly nine months.

"The algorithm they came up with could be implemented on current-generation hardware," said Cerny. "So the co-developed algorithm has already been released by AMD as part of FSR 4 on PC. And we're in the process of implementing it on PS5 and it will release next year on PS5 Pro."

While FSR and PSSR are two different algorithms, Cerny suggests that the version coming to PS5 Pro in 2026 is in no way weaker or less than AMD's FSR 4.

"It's not a cut-down [version] of the algorithm," he explained. "It's the full-fat version of the co-developed super resolution that we'll be releasing on PS5 Pro."

Depends what you mean with run better, it will definitely look better. But if the game is CPU bound it might still be 30fps.

However, the Pro has hardware for AI based upscaling that the base doesn't have, and when they release FSR4 on it (from post above) it could potentially be a big boost. We will have to wait and see.

Rockstar are wizards though, no doubt the game will be amazing on base consoles even.

And with Gears of War launching on PS, the same day as Helldivers 2 drops on Xbox, all I can say is that I hope more games break the exclusive barrier. Only good for us gamers.

Don't say exclusives should not exist, just like, time-gates would be a better option for gamers, even if that means after x time it launches on PC as well.
100%.

I've never understood consumers backing the idea of exclusivity to a single platform.

Surely more games = more good?

Just remember it is a 20 year old game, learnt that lesson from Reloaded.
Hopefully they actually bring some life improvements that 2 and 3 brought to the franchise
I hear you geuss I got too excited to quickly, hoping this breathes new life into Gears franchise and keeps the franchise going.

BUT, What a time to be alive!!!!

Xbox = 3rd Party Publisher
PS = 3rd party Publisher

Hopefully this opens the door for gamers to enjoy as many games as they can on their preffered platform.

Looking to buy a PS5 for myself and my kid. Does anyone know what the best version is to buy? Is the pro a significant upgrade to the original or slim?

This stick drift nonsense is driving me mad, both my launch dualsense and my one I bought less than a year ago has drift, one is unusable. Hall effect controllers for ps5 are also annoying expensive compared to alternatives on Xbox. Really tempting me to make the switch.

If you can drop the 18k or whatever on the pro, get that. If not, I think the slim fully replaced the launch model already. For most games the slim is fine.

Ghost of Yotei has been hinted at being a game with yuri elements. Will have to see.

Don't switch to the Switch 2 though, as that also does not have hall effect.

Hexgaming Phantom Pro has hall effect sticks, but it's R5200 on Amazon.
Good review here:

I would never consider a modern Nintendo product ever. You have to be indoctrinated into the cult of Nintendo to think they're worth the money.
