If anyone wants a static address so you can access your files/pc from work etc or host small websites/ftp and so on.. it is possible and quite easy.
Go to www.dyndns.org and click on "Dynamic DNS" then register and choose a host name. Remember to "add host" and choose a custom name.
Something like joesoap would be joesoap.gotdns.com - This way (after some setting up) you can always access your pc from elsewhere and will always have a redirected dns address.
After registration, the next thing is to get an update client. Look for "Clients" on the left side menu under "Dynamic DNS". Get the first one (dynsite.zip) - it works well. Heres the link: http://noeld.com/dl.asp?path=dynsite.zip&
Its quite easy to set up.
The nice thing is its all free and quite fast. If your IP changes it will register in under 5 minutes and a max of 1 hour.
I have used this (as many others have) quite effectively [
] even though its not a REAL static IP - but its a good halfway [8D]
