I'm just interested in finding out your thoughts about the playstation network in SA
and as an open minded gamer, what are the ups and downs of LIVE and PSN
in this country.
The short and sweet is that While PSN is free to play and Xbox Live is a paid for service, XBL is significantly superior. PSN is upgrading all the time, but so is Xbox Live, and I'm sure we'll see the two duking it out for years to come.
The core difference is that the 360 is built around live! It's integrated into everything, a part of everything, as such the 360 community is a lot more online focused. Rough estimate is that the 360 online user community is around 4 times the size of the PS3 community, and it's a lot easier to get inot a game or hook up with your friends. XBL also has tons more content in the form of XBLA games, demo's, music video's etc.
The downside is that XBL is not officially supported in SA yet, and while it's been promised, no dates have been given. In the mean time we all use UK or US accounts which work just fine. (Except when the Germans have a hissy fit )
I dont mean this to be 100 questions but besides the fact that we dont have to pay for PSN,what are the advantages of it being available in SA,Are there local servers available. And from what I have read its not as easily accessible as
xbox LIVE even considering its local availability.
(excluding the fact that we have to purchase points and subscriptions online, which is really quite simple)
Also, how do the whole points thing work on th PS. Similar to Microsofts.
The "South Africaness" of PSN is that pricing in the store is in Rands, but the service etc is still hosted overseas, there are no local servers. That also answers your second question.
