So with iOS 4.3 personal hotspot out, I plan to get on the net with my PS3 for the 1st time. Not so much for online gaming but more for demo's and PSN exclusive games (esp. move stuff). I have a few noob questions,
1. Do I sign up as a south african or american?
2. How does the PSN point thing work, I'm not too keen on using my CC (if that's possible), is it like the iphone app store where the US store has the good stuff & ZA none?
3. Can you download anything without a PSN login ID?
4. Any thing else a noob needs to know?

Same principle as a gift card. BTW, No hassles i know of using Credit Card though.3. Can you download anything without a PSN login ID? You have to be activated to use PSN in the first place, so No.4. Any thing else a noob needs to know?
Nope, you have it covered. Demo's are usually quite large. You also have a choice of PSN or PSN plus - Plus is a subscription base.

Thanks Wasp, no subscription for me. At least not for now. I'll sign on PC before I go online.

I see there's various forums that give download sizes for games and demos. Does this mean I won't be able to determine the size of the file I'm about to download on the PS3? I don't have adsl or uncapped, can't waste precious mobile broadband data on sizes I can't afford. The games are probably going to cost way less than the cost of downloads.

I hope the mini-games aren't too large (<100Mb).

Not sure about the size of mini games, but you can check the file size before purchase and download.

Your PC sign-up is linked to PSN so shouldn't be a problem, at least i think so. I did mine through the PS3, so not 100% sure, i do know that if i'm on PC and go to playstation.com, my online id works. The games are sometimes more expensive to buy on PSN than in store, however, the opposite also applies. Lots of other downloadable content on PSN.
