Hey guys

I see the psp3000 was released but i havnt really heard much discussion about the psp for a while and was wondering what the general consensus on it was now. Is it still a worthwhile gaming console/media device? I see the latest prices are a bit crazy but perhaps a second hand model? The prospect of homebrew also seems appealing though but how customizable is it really?

time/effort... just go xbox, my psp is a paperweight cause it just isnt worth it

if you have a ps3 the remote play is great - i can stream all of my media to the psp without any transcoding - even over the internet.

if you put custom firmware on it then you can put pretty much anything on it, software wise. It's a great device that doubles as a portable media player, not the smallest gadget to carry around but the headphone amp is excellent, audio amp kills the ipod quality wise.

If you want a PSP, buy a 1000 or 2000 series one and get custom firmware. The Psp is worthless with stock firmware imo.

well not exactly, it's a very capable pmp, and coupled with the ps3 is very handy, but for games/homebrew... cfw is the way to go

Get a DS, I have had both, DS is still played, PSP never used.

Well... wioth rumblings about a PSP2 surfacing... I would say nope!

i suppose it had its day when there was no xbox or ps3 out yet and it was literally a ps2 in your hands. now its a bit pointless

Mine is gathering dust as we speak.

I suppose CFW will allow me to play some SNES, N64 games in the near future ...

Another option might be iPhone. You get your phone, 3G for google maps, emails and such and its gaming library is growing rapidly and the quality on titles better and better. Still not the power of the PSP but the next version might be there, though by then we prolly got PSP2 and in SA the iPhone is a bit expensive.
