Is it really worth the buy? Is it really that enjoyable? This is the questuon i have to ask all PsP owners off today.

i am thinking of purchasing 1 for myself but seeing im am strapped for cash i dont really want to waste my money cause i aint getting it back again!

Thanks

In all honesty a new one probably isn't worth it, second hand might.

Its got some great games, tekken, loco roco, everybody's golf, mercury, but of late (even before i got my wii) i havent been playing it, its lost alot of appeal imho

and this coming from a sony fan :p

have you tried it out? if so what games have you played?

i dont really use the homebrew, but you can get lotsa emulators, media players, etc. look at www.psp-hacks.com for that

also look at psp.ign.com for reviews and previews to see if there any games you'll think you'll be playing

Well the only thing i have really seen on it is a movie, but in the end im wondering about the effort put into those games wether it comes woth substantial storylines and plots.

Because when i think of pSp i think of games on my cell phone, kinda like dissapointing.

What do you think?

Andthe second hand ones these days are not that cheap either, i think the PsP is somewhat over priced!

Shank, well lets see. What CANT you do with a PSP? I mean, people are buying 40 GIG Ipods, what for? to play music? PSP can do that, plus play wirelessly from your pc. To watch movies? PSP can do that and play wirelessly from your pc, streaming in real-time, with no conversion at all!!
The iPOD costs what, R3500? for what? bloody hell.
The PSP can play games, over 200 that I know of, and yes, there are some **** games, like with all consoles, but there are alot of really good games. Me and a friend have been playing tekken and need for speed wirelessly together for the past 4 hours, ots really cool. No klunky pc, no sharing a tv screen, i can sit in my room, and him in the lounge and we can play network games with no cables at all.

With the PSP I can use mobileVNC and connect to my pc wirelessly and control my pc. I can use my PSP as a wirless controller on my pc, to play games. I can use my PSP's IR to control my tv and dvd player.

I can now play PS1 games on my psp using popstation. I can emulate other game systems, Nintendo, MAME, SEGA, Neo-Geo, Classic Consoles, Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Commodore, Spectrum, BBC Micro, SimCoupe, MSX/MSX2 and MORE!!!

****, what else?

I can customize my PSP, background, font, icons, sounds.

I can read ebooks, text files. I can manage my files on the PSP from the PSP. I can copy files from and to my pc wirlessly.

And lets be honest, the PSP still looks cool.

there are a 1000 uses for a psp like you can control 2000 ir devices
I use my psp for hacking and homebrew, not for games its a personal choice

Can some1 please list the uses of an PSp an whats Homebrew? I just need to know what i would be able to use it for if i have to someday get bored of this thing..

but kevin swan said it already, whaty he said on the above post is what it can do.
homebrew is appz and games and software thats not officual sony stuff
Example hackesrs and coders wrote programs for the psp without sonys envolvment

?

example of a good application non sony software is irshell by ahman

Hacking? What are you exaclty hacking, and half the programs you mentioned i have no idea what they exaclty do! Arg i suppose i would judt have to google it and read up about it!

GRrrr:sick:

Thank you guys, I bought a PSP just to resell and the best thing of all , you guys changed my mind for me , will now rather keep it for myself and utilise all its fab functionalities and hacks. Brilliant input.

Itws only a pleasure man ,Its not all games for the device,Its like a mini parmtop in your hand only better at half the price
Go to this site and select the psp link then your whole world will open of the psp

K i would jut lke to ask the PSP owners out there. A few questions or so.

1. Can you watct and avi file with a psp seeing that im not sure what Format the psp only supports.

2.could i shrink DVD images to watch it on my psp

3.Could I get a larger or should, what storage space does it work with!

4. Um not sure on what else will carry on as i go.

Shot for teh ehlp so far!

Later:D

1) The PSP supports the MP4 video format. There is an early version of an app that allows you to play other formats (avi, mpeg, etc), but it seems to have never gotten further than the beta stages.

Programs such as "Action Replay for PSP" allow you to manage your savegames and convert your avi's, etc into mp4 and transfer it to your PSP.

2) I can't recall the name of the program at the moment, but there is definitely one out there that allows you to convert straight from DVD to MP4.

3) The PSP uses Memory Stick Duo and Pro Duo formats. Anything smaller than 1gig is a waste of time. You can pick up a 2gig for about R400-R600 depending on where you look.

4) Make sure you look into the new custom firmwares that are available. e.g. Dark_Alex's 3.03OE-B allows you to play PS1 games and has a multitude of other features.

5) You'll need a PSP with firmware 2.80 and below to use homebrew and therefore get the most out of your PSP.

Thanks that was very helpfull in deed. So then its not worth buying a new one but a second hand 1 right? With the older version of software. But the thing is im kinda in to my anime so i would like to watch it anywhere when im bored so i though the psp might come in handy, but from what your telling me its not really possibe any more!

Snif

Thanks for the help man!

Not really, some sites even provide their anime for example already in MP4 format or you could just use the programs i mention to convert your downloaded avi's.

Always worth a try!
