Well I just got my PSP back (actually its my sons', lol) after christmas day when the start button broke.

Its got v2.80 firmware, and a disc came with the psp that gives me upgrade option for firmware..... lol..... to v2.0...lol.

Anyway what are my .. cheapest options for sync'ing with pc? USB cable? but what is cost of this thing, and where can i buy for that cost (mother city). And what about wireless? I aint done this wireless thing before but would that be a cheaper option? if so how much cost?

keep the psp at version 2.8dont go any higher than that,So incase you need to downgrade the software, for homebrew.
secondly you can get a mini b usb sony cable at any good computer store like
incredible connection(corruption),i dont know the price now,but any sony cybershot camera has such a connection

Thirdly if you have internet at home like adsl, just get a wirelss router with an access point,
Or if you want to be cheapass then get a usb wireless dongle with accesspoint,
Any other questions.
i hope i answered it for you, there is ways to get those things cheap ,like second hand

Yer, look, def want cheapest option - and according to you it i'll be the usb option. So i'll check that out sometime soon.

I've done a bit of reading about firmware and realize that i shouldnt update my (my sons' firmware.. lol) firmware, cause of what you have said, dablakmark8. My firmware is actually 2.60, not 2.8 like i said, so i'll keep it just the way it is.

1) The PSP supports the MP4 video format. There is an early version of an app that allows you to play other formats (avi, mpeg, etc), but it seems to have never gotten further than the beta stages.

Early versions??? Beta stages??? What you on about? There's a couple of apps that allows you to play other formats like avi's and mpeg's. PimpStreamer (www.pimpware.org) plays almost anything and you can even stream it from your pc via wireless. No need to convert anything!

Yes i am well aware of and do use those streaming apps, but i'm quite sure the thread author was asking about mem stick capacity because he needed it to be portable out of the range of some wireless streaming feed. He doesn't even mention owning any form of wireless hardware and seeing as he is new to the psp i wasn't going to confuse him with more advanced options.

so what is your favourite homebrew guys,
Irshell is a coders contest winner

Definitely PimpStreamer! I can be anywhere in my house and watch the movies from my pc on my PSP. Mostly in bed if I can't sleep and don't feel like getting up and go sit in the livingroom... ;)

ok yes its a good homebrew, but you need a internet connection.
there is a way to do the exact same but without the internet connection.
like irshell and nethostfs.exe
Irshell can let you brows your pc without an internet conection, but of course you must have a usb wireless dongle
Good for guys that dont have an internet connection

So does PimpStreamer :p

My favourite homebrew apps include:
- PimpStreamer (media playing)
- GPsp 0.9 (GBA emulation)
- DGen 1.70 (GENESIS emulation)
- NesterJ 1.20beta2 (NES emulation)
- s9xTYL 0.4.2 (SNES emulation)
- MAME4All (arcade emulation)

By the way Dark_Alex has just release his latest custom firmware 3.03 OE-C
Changes include:

- AVC videos bitrate limit patched. The firmware limited the bitrate of avc videos to only 768 Kbps.OE now forces the limit to be 16384 Kbps. (Note: this doesn't mean than the psp can handle such a high bitrate; this means than they won't show error. I don't know which is the real maximum bitrate than the psp can handle at full speed).

- Speed of OE boot is now ~3 seconds faster than previous versions. (without plugins).

- Cpu speed of XMB can now be changed.

- Wifi can now work at 333 Mhz.

- Added access to flashes 0 and 1 via usb in the recovery menu, based on the great idea of USBSSS by Booster. Note that writing is enabled, so this is intended only for advanced users that know what they are doing in each moment.(It is not a great idea to change anything from the kd folder). Because of this addition, the rest of flashing options were removed.

- PSP isos can now be deleted as any normal memstick games. (also the size of the iso now shows fine when you press triangle->information).

- When formatting memory stick, GAME150, GAME303 and ISO directories will be automatically created.

- Changes in internal HEN core:

* If a EBOOT.PBP with a plain DATA.PSP had a data.psar, modulemgr took as size of the executable the size of data.psp+data.psar. Fixed. (this fix enables psx games to have plain data.psp without causing a memory error).

* Added a couple of patches found by Tyranid. One allows syscalls instructions to be used in kernel mode without causing a crash. The other allows sceKernelQueryModuleInfo to work with sceInit and previous modules.

I would just like to announce that i've just converted my first movie into mp4 to play on my psp. ... and it worked like a charm.

you dont need an internet connection to use pimpstreamer, just a WAP.

and im using firmware 3.03 OE-C, its sweet!

Boodles: I dont waste my time converting, pimpstreamer streams mp3's and movies to my PSP live from my pc.

All this stuff you can do with the PSP is too much for my brain to absorb at once.

I dont have a rooter thingee for pimping. Only got usb cable. Blah.
