PSP v2.0 Hacked

Depends how long it takes for homebrew to arrive I guess.

I don't understand Sony they should just make the PSP a multi purpose device ..... It will sell more. They can software other than games .... will make stacks of money ....

Does this mean i can load that Ver 2 update ?

Do any of these Homebrew Apps work on Ver. 1.52 ?

I bought it from Toys R Us in Canal Walk. It's 1.52 but the Demo disk has the optional Ver 2 upgrade on it. If i'm not mistaken they're all like this ?

The games at the moment available through the retail channels are limited but according to gamespot there are some nice games coming out next month like
Grand Theft Auto : Liberty Stories.

EDIT : - Sorry for the delayed response but until Telkom move my line i'm on a 56k dialup :(

The first homebrew game is out [Pong]

Eurogamer (and anybody else who follows PSPUpdates for that matter) can confirm that the reported hack for version 2.0 PlayStation Portables definitely works – we've seen it in action.

The catalyst for running homebrew applications is buffer overflow exploit involving a PNG image file. Once the image has been planted in the PSP's photo directory and set as wallpaper, any software masquerading as an image file in the photo directory can be run from the photo viewer menu.

The best example we've seen of this so far is a two-player version of Pong, with the left paddle controlled by the up and down directional buttons and the right by the triangle and X buttons. Other examples include a "Hello World!" program.

Right now there's reportedly an upper file size limit of 64KB, but, with the basic tools to run homebrew software on PSP 2.00 now available, it's only a matter of time before someone smashes through that and we start to see an avalanche of new software.

Sweet, being on 1.52 means nothing is available to me anyway so i might as well upgrade to 2.00 seeing all the attention is being diverted there.

Great - so I'm sitting here with a coin - heads I keep my 1.51, tails I upgrade to 2.0 . . . . . .TBC . . .

Lol, i upped to 2.

bwana, have you tried connecting using someone elses Access Point using the wireless scan ?

No - nothing around me but me with wireless. Cant even log onto mine as it wont work with wpa2 and even if it did its a beeatch trying to type in a 64 characters into a psp!

Still debating the upgrade . . .

Well i upped last night seeing that the focus is on cracking 2 right now (did they forget about 1.52?) ;) , and you get a nice looking browser.

Aaaai, i'm betting that GTA LS's delay next month was a change to check that Ver 2 is installed before running, so you're gonna have to upgrade at some point ;) .

Off Topic, i was scratching through some old junk and found a Super Mario 3 cartridge for my old nintendo. SM3 rocked back in the day.

Anyways, legally i'm allowed to use the rom now so anxiously waiting for a 2.0 Emulator

Kwel - thanks for the info - as far as I can tell there's no reason for me not to do the upgrade.
