I can't decide on which one to buy????

and secondly , is there anyway i can tell what version the psp is before i open the box?

You Will buy a gigabyte memory stick which will cost +-R800. The value pack comes standard with a 32 mb stick, which is next to useless. So if the price difference is less than R800 go for the giga pack. New PSP's in South Africa comes with 2.1 or higher version software as far as I know

bleh, new software, thats gonna suck!

yea the difference in price is R400 so it looks like a giga pack is better option, still gotta plug a game in ontop of that tho!

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty Stories is pretty cool. SSX on Tour is really fun as well :D

Pay the extra 400 for the Gigapack, trust me, once you got it, you gonna want the memory stick for photos, music, videos etc. Playing games is only a small part of what the psp can do. You will save yourself 400 in the long run

i got the giga pack, and wipe out pure :)

the demo psp instore was version 2.00

the one i actually bought was 2.01 :(

:( ..... Then there be's no Homebrew for you.

Where did you purchase the unit from?

Look out for dead / lit pixels on the screen. If there are any, take the console and only the console back. Chances are they will replace it with a Value Pack console which is Ver. 1.52 -> 2 .

hmmm... no dead pixels! just my grubby finger prints!

should i bash it?

Aaah well.... i'm sure 2.01 will be cracked in the next month or two so dont fret about it :D

Upgrade

I would say that you if you have Version 2 or higher, that you might as well upgrade to version 2.60 and not stay on 2.1. Do the others agree with me? Some benefits include the ability to play WMA files and I believe RSS feeds?

well..... then again they might find an exploit which only runs on 2.1 and not 2.6 .... i'll stick with 2.1 at the moment!

2.6 had security fixes over 2.01 , i would say chill there until it's cracked.
What i would love too see is support for DivX .....

i got mine at makro!

yes yes its expensive, but i had vouchers!

Indeed ernst,

but it's such a schlepp to re-encode vids just to watch on the PSP, i just wanna copy and watch on the fly

Yeah, the re-encoding thing is a mission, and unless you got a decent machine it can take a few hours, to watch like an hour of movie.
