Hmmm, my Psu is rated at 400w and has a max combined +12v output of i think 19A (with both +12v1 and +12v2)
The requirements for the 9600GT i am getting is something like 400w with 24A output.

I have got 2 Hdds ( 1 SATA, 1 IDE)
3 Fans ( 2x 120mm, 1x 80mm)
And 1 Optical ( CD writer)

And i have a 250 watt PSU lying around at home, can i connect my HDD's, Fans and CD writer to the 250w PSU and then have just the 400w running into my Motherboard and for the 9600Gt?
Or should i Just get a new, gigabyte 550W Psu to run it all?

Rather just buy the 550watt Gigabyte power supply less hassle am not even sure if u need it.There is no way a 96GT uses 400watts unless it's 2 in sli.96GT uses more or less 220watt at most.

Isnt there a risk of blowing all the components in the pc if i overload my Psu though? But i dont feel like forking out R550 for a Psu:mad:

You can with effort. If you don't have a system designed from the get go (like server cases) to take backup power or more than one PSU this is dangerous...

U can always work it out.
A drive opticle or hdd takes about 30watts
fans about 3watts
Motherboard will take about 100watts
processor depends on what processor u got but am sure u will find it's power consumption on google.on intel web-site or amd.

according to tomshardware your 96GT will take about 197 watts on load.

From here am sure u can work it out.And yes your psu can blow if u over do it.
Just remb to add a few watts to the total for later upgrades.

I have curently got a Intel Petium 4 3.0Ghz Ht, and im getting a Core 2 Duo e4600 which i know uses alot less power so im sure it would be fine....The thing im worring about is the amount of amps it exceeds becacause on my PSU it says " combined +12V1 and +12V2 must not exceed 19A and on the referance PSU wattage thing in the Hardware FAQ it says the 9600Gt needs 26A?
