Got a brand new Proline 650W installed for my PC.

Funny thing is the PC works fine with normal use. The moment I try to OC my E5200 from 2.5Ghz to 3Ghz the system just reset the bios to default.

Tried another cheap 350W noname PSU and it overclocks fine with the same settings.

Is there a specific rail that I should check on it?

How do sent something back and tell them it works fine for normal use, but i cant overclock so I want a new one.:D

Hmm do you have the specs on that 650w? There are MANY psu's with high peak wattage which are actually comparable to a decent 350w. Its more about the amps on the 12v rail these days.

Whats the rest of the system?

Intel E5200, Gigabyte G31M-S2L, 1SATA HD, HD3780, 2GB Trancend DRRII 800 RAM, DVD Writer.

Will check tonight what model PSU it is.

Could be your Board to, I have had to revert back to stock as the oc was affecting my onboard NIC and GPU(artifacts in bios before the dedicated card kicks in).

Also, what were your settings for the OC?

I think is was FSB 240, RAM was running@ 800Mhz. Can't remeber the devider. The voltages I left as is.

What I don't understand is why would the settings work on 1 PSU and not the other one.

I checked on the net for the MB settings (what should be on/off) but is doesn't make a difference.

Its to hot in Paarl anyway to OC with the cooling that ive got (last night my CPU was running @ 52 °C with no load, 40 °C ambient), but is was just for testing. :)

I'm thinking that maybe one PSU has much cleaner or more stable voltages. If you turbo up your car, you wouldn't want to use dirty fuel.

OC sucks at best and although you can squeeze some extra juice out of the system, no manufacturer would recommend it.
Proper cooling is the only way to go if you must overclock.
If you want Ferrari speed, don't buy an Uno! :)

Dude its not your psu, your overclock has gone bad so your motherboard resets itselfs, nothing to do with your psu. You sure its the exact same setting?

Hehe

So it only took me 6 months to sort it out.:o In the end it was the ram that was in the wrong slot (only one 2gb stick). I moved the stick to a different slot to install a GFX card.

Now my E5200 runs at 3Ghz with no voltage bump and my cheap trancend ram at 960Mhz.:D
