At least grid defection seems to be an option but will that still incur a network charge or not?

He said a customer that wanted to be off-grid completely could have the metro disconnect their energy supply.

Any customer that is still grid-connected to Tshwane’s network will have to install bi-directional meters to avoid polluting the network with excess power.
Seems like the opposite of pollution to me..

“Tshwane cannot incentivise customers that are still connected to the network as they use our network as a battery and are not paying for the maintenance of such network.

“In the absence of these customers not applying, the voltage levels strain become a problem to other customers connected to the same network.”
So, no benefit to the customers that help manage the insufficient load that result in loadshedding, transformers blowing up etc for others, but give stick when they suddenly don't do what others want them to do? Typical mindless mentality..

We have our own batteries thanks, we don't need some half-assed barely functional government one.

If you want surplus power to manage your generation issues, then incentivise it. Else GTFO, we'll waste our excess out of spite...

I know people with solar that will tell CoT and Eskom to get ****ed. They invested in their own solar to cut ties with Eskom and they will not lift a finger to help Eskom or the council.
