Well if you're going to blame anyone, you better blame FW de Klerk's government as well, 'cos that's when the bad planning started.

I am afraid that cannot be the case, as far as I can remember, Eskom mothballed three power stations in about 1997 because of an over supply situation. I am not too sure of the year and amount.

I think we must also bear in mind that the current head of Eskom has a major share in the pebble-bed reactor thingy and maybe the thinking is that if we are bombarded with power outages, the public and guvment will accept this unproven power supplier?

What you on about? Calculate an additional R300 B on top of the current deficits and see how rates and taxes will have to increase to cope. Remember for 13 Years NO extra allowance were made for power development. Do you think they are going to steal less just to make the budget work? I do not think so.

Eskom is just going to rape us with increases. This load shedding is meant to "soften us up" so we accept a 20% hike next year and the next.
