I am trying to get my site live, I am teaching myself as I go thus the noob questions :o

So, I have uploaded all the files needed (html, jpegs and gifs) and moved them to the httpdocs folder using the Parrallels Plesk control panel. Now I get an Apache test page when I visit my site and there I'm told to put my web files into /var/www/html/ but I cant create that directory. I can create /https/var/www/html/ and copy the files there but still get the test page. To confuse me even more my hosting account told me to put the files into the wwwroot folder but I cant create that either.

So where do I put my files and what must be done to make them "live"? Any one out there willing to enlighten me?

You might have to delete or rename the initial page and have one of your files take that name.

its got to be "index.html","index.htm" or "index.php" in case you are using PHP

So check your /html directory to see if you got such

You don't have to create these folders. They should already be there, so just find the right directory, delete the default page and upload your site to there.

Dam, if your Parrallels Plesk control panel says there is an httpdocs folder then that will be the right folder to put your files into. Secondly, rename your home page to index.php or index.html (whichever you're working with) and your site should work.

Thanks guys. I deleted the default files from the httpdocs folder and moved my files there, also renamed my homepage to index.html (that is what their 'home' was called) but still no joy. For some reason I'm getting the Apache test page but cant find where those files are coming from. I suspect I messed something up along the way.

Oh, here is a link http://www.imaganimation.com/, as you will see I get an Apache test page, before I deleted the Plesk files from httpdocs I was getting the Plesk Page but once I deleted those files and put my files there instead I got the Apache page

are you getting a page with your site files and directory structure?

I usually work with CPanel, but I suppose plesk is the same...

shouldn't the files be in the "public_html" folder though?

it seems you need to create a directory structure "/var/www/html/" and add your "index.htm" in there,

so it will be "/var/www/html/index.htm"

Ha! My file was Index.html, changed it to index.html and it works! Damn caps got me:o Thanks for the help.

PS. don't laugh at my site, it's not going to look like that and there are mistakes.

Got a Live page that has under contruction at the top with a bigass pic in the middle so I assume it's working :)

*Edit - posted just before you posted the Fixed reply

Cool. There are a few 3d people here, Keeper included. I have been working in 3ds Max for the last three years but going back to Maya next year. Also going from full time employment to freelance, that's why I need the website.

/off-topic
 hardcore my friend, hardcore. have you tried introducing ZBrush into your Maya Workflow?

Haven't tried Zbrush yet, your thread last week convinced me that it is the way to go so I will be looking into that. Coincidentally I was also following your PC thread since I need to upgrade my rig, will probably get a similar setup.
