Hi guys - I'm new on this forum. Given the circumstances I guess I won't be around much longer anyway.

Received a call from a tele person at Sentech this afternoon telling me the news: as a Classic package subscriber, having been on a 24 month contract that has now become a month-to-month arrangement, I will receive access ONLY to the end of October. Then my service will be terminated by Sentech. Kaput. Unless I migrate to a Flexi package. I choose not to. I paid upfront for my modem, which will now become as useful as a boeing with no engines. Given that Sentech will be cancelling my contract, I feel I am entitled to be reimbursed for the cost of that modem.

Any views on this?

heheheh.. Yeah, I agree with the Pigs!!!

But on a less serious note, as you have already had your 24month contract plus being on month-to-month there is no real claim against Sentech for the modem. You bought it and that's that.... We just need to find someone who knows how to change the settings of the modems so we can use it for 3G with Vodacom or MTN etc. etc.

No chance on the modem. Cancelling MyWi doesn't terminate your membership on these forums either :D I'm keeping the modem, stands on my bookshelf, reminding my of incompetent people I've dealt with in my life

Tough cookies. You lose some money - nothing to cry about.
What's a couple of grand anyway compared to how much you spent on the service over the months?

Good thing ADSL modems are so cheap. ;)

So from Sentech, where to? My average usage is 3-5gb per month. Any suggestions?

ADSL is probably your best bet if you can wait for the installation ...
The cell phone providers data offerings are still quite expensive but they have their uses if you're in coverage area and want it "now" or if you need to move around a lot.

Well if youve been use to Sentech, Iburst shouldnt be bad. They will be R600 for 3 gigs with a 64kb unlimited after cap access, just to clear things up, if you think thats worth it compared to ADSL give them a call.
They deliver in 48 hours or you can get the modem the same day, and be connected.

But honestly, ADSL is very nice for surfing, and emails, and gaming, its just those constant pings...

MY contract with Sentech has just ended as well (THANK GOD!!!) and so I have done 2 things. I have signed up with ADSL (512KB) for the same price as my Sentech 128 :p and they delivered within 12 days (surprisingly enough). In fact Telkom was so quick I still don't have my ADSL modem as yet but the line is installed and I am good to go once I get my modem.

The second thing I did was activate 3G on my cellphone so when I need to I can access the internet away from Home/Office. It works out quite nicely as I am not paying any subscription on my 3G access as I have taken the option of pay as you use, and once I have have an indication of how much I use, I will upgrade to a package deal. All in all, the entire package costs me less than R1k per month and is more flexible than Sentech ever was and ADSL ever will be ..

my 2 cents....
