At the risk of this being slightly old news - sorry, I was busy.

It strikes me that the decision to put the refugee camps into the areas they did was to punish the residents for making the government look like the plonkers that they are.

The response to the state incubated xenophobic crisis came mainly from those citizens who had the means to donate cash, blankets, and food. The fact that the man on the street (okay leafy suburabn street) was able to respond through churches etc and the government wasn't showed just how inept the government is in dealing with this problem (or any other for that matter).

So, middle class residents, you are being punished.

My suggested response to this outrage is to have your property revalued and submit a letter to the lwer value to the rates department. They'll probably try and tell you that they can't do anything about it but use the arguement that if your house had burnt to the ground does it still have the same value.
