Purchased a property

Well we bought a place and are paying occupational rent. However we found a huge cockroach problem. The owner claims that there was no problem before we moved in.
After cleaning and getting exterminators the problem seems to have gone away.
But wont the owner be liable for these costs?

Nope

I thought the entomologist report covers all of this, but apparently it has nothing to do with cockroaches

Unfortunately that is going to be the case, you assumed something, doesn't make it the sellers responsibility to fix or compensate.

When you buy its always advisable to get your own electrician etc.. in to do a proper inspection. Make it a condition of sale that your 'own' people are allowed in and that any defects thus discovered are to be fixed by the seller otherwise the sale is cancelled. It cost a bit more but believe me, it sorts out 90% of the problems buyers usually encounter after a sale.

The electrical certificates etc.. that you sometimes get is a joke.

Well we all learn. Its our first property. So next time we'll be sure to do this. But on a happier note . We haven't had another problem and we seem to have solved the other. Touch wood
