Hi Guys,

These days we are spoilt for choice tho it can also be confusing - which of the below options would u go for ? Instead of going thru these all-in-1 bundle deals i would think that is is better to buy your own ADSL router.
I wonder if there is a ADSL router/modem comparison chart - any of you know any on the web?

Billion 7300 ADSL2+ Modem/Router with 4-Port Switch
Price: R 559.00 incl VAT

D-Link 4 Port ADSL Router - DSL-2540U
R546.00

NETGEAR ADSL Modem & Router w/ 4 port 10/100 switch CDG834
R620.00

In my opinion a modem is a modem. Just get one that you can afford that has 4 LAN ports. Eg. If you want a wireless one, get a wireless one etc etc. I would stay away from those all-in-one "deals" where you get a "free" modem when you sign a 12/24 month contract - it is not on. Those deals are fine, but stay away from the contract and just take it on month-to-month.

I would recommend the Netgear. Been using a similar model (the wireless version of the one you are enquiring about) for years; problem-free, rock-solid stable and fast.

Side note: are you specifically not considering wireless routers? If you get a wireless router, it will be much less hassle to connect (for example) a laptop to your network to share the Internet connection with (in addition to a PC hardwired into the switch). Wireless freedom - once you experience it, you will rarely want to go back to the desktop ;)
