Hi all,

I have a fixed Ip adsl line here at work (its through mweb) to a MYSQL SERVER. Customers come in down the fixed ip and access data on the SERVER (very simple db).

However since all the other DESKTOP PC's in our office are also connected to this SERVER PC (its our internet gateway) we inevitably chow our cap.

Is it possible for me to purchase an extra GB cap from an alternate company for use in browsing with our DESKTOP PC's without affecting our SERVER PC adsl connection and setup, but still using the fixed ADSL line to access the interwebs?

regards

Andrew

Depends on the router that is being used. You'll probably be able to establish a PPPoE session if the modem supports half-bridge or bridged mode. Then perhaps have the other Desktops connect through the PC that is hosting the PPPoE session?

I'm not entirely certain on how the fixed IP works or how this will be effected.

Fixed IP solutions from MWEB is in all probability the Cisco Router and issued by Internet Solutions, which now makes me wonder why they're not on the Business Uncapped package instead. It also offers a fixed IP address but with no cap...

Yes its a cisco router - do you know of any guides for placing in half bridged mode?
