Purchasing on a website - how ?

You want a sideline thingy generating some sideline money. You don't "need" a R250 000 site.

I can get you a fully functional ecommerce site, using free tools, within hours. Domain registration, website hosting, free ecommerce software, free template... The problem with this is that it will not feel like your website at all.

I agree - plus you can get some decent commercial templates for next to nothing, if you would rather not use a free template. It's extremely hard to start an e - commerce store and you may feel that it possibly isn't for you - this way you can upgrade the look and functionality as the business grows.

Lastly you can accept credit cards without a bank business account or number (i.e. you could use a savings account) with a payment processor such as PayFast.

I hate payfast because of one reason alone...

We have to know who uses PayFast, so require that you [buyer/end user] register the first time you use PayFast

If a site gives me the option to use my credit card through SetCom/PayFast/SafeShop, I rather just do an EFT on the spot - faster, easier and I don't have to register just so that I can pay....

How do you feel about PayPal?

Ha. I'm perfectly fine with Paypal. I use it on a heckload of different international websites, all the time. I love it! The whole bothering thing comes into play (for me at least) where I need to sign up to a payment gateway that I will probably only end up using on this one specific website, if ever again. It would almost be like PnP forcing you to go through a whole signup process just to be able to use your credit card at their tills. Then to top it all off you cannot use that same account at Spar, Shoprite, Woolworths et al as they each use a different gateway or something. Just leads to another username and password you need to remember and another institution with your credit card details and whatnot.
