What are the cheapest means of acquiring Windows 7 at the moment? I'm not interested in piracy. This is strictly for licensed discs.

edit: This includes pre-order deals from local sites.. I just haven't found any yet. You can pre-order Windows 7 Home Premium at newegg.com for $199 but obviously local would be better.

Can't you install any copy of Windows on as many PCs as you want with an MSDN subscription?

Cheapest is to order online from overseas companies which sell DSP/OEM versions at discount prices. Ebay is a good place. Just make sure the seller is reputable - so you won't get pirate copies and look at the price too.

NewEgg won't ship to you in SA direct but CdRomShop.com (Canadian shop)
will.

I have been using W7 since january...totally brilliant. I am now using the downloaded Ultimate version which will last until next June. The download is 3 GB and you must do a clean install, but well worth the effort. You will be able to buy the local version from October, so if you want the real thing, wait a month, or do what I have done :D

what happens when you reach the activation limit?
you will most likely have to do telephonic calls to MS each time you want to activate windows...

somehow this kind of activation does not movitate me to legally obtain it

Yip. Pay the money, then jump through all the flaming hoops. At your expense and inconvenience.

OR

Don't pay, put the disk in, press go and Voila! Done!

It's the poor non-techy people that suffer the most. Shame.

the rc you can easely get keys for, the public release that will hit stores on the 6th october i think you will need to buy or crack, keep up will ya

1.Download and install the RTM version you want and rearm it until windows 7 goes on sale.
2.Then buy a copy that is the same as the one you installed and change the key to your legit one.
3.Activate it.:)

ROFL!

Install now and then act all surprised when the version you finally purchase does not have the features you're used to.

:(
