Push for more load shedding exemptions

Well JHB could be exempt up to 2 stages of Load shedding by Eskom said no. But annnnnyway.
 
Sounds reasonable to me.

Probably because I live in a load shedding exempt area due to an ongoing water crisis...
 
It's an opportunity for the city and their water utility to install back up systems. It'll be cheaper than redesigning the distribution system to exempt them, unless they plan to exclude entire areas. And more than likely Eskom would just demand that they shed more areas to make up.

The city went about that incompetently, it is obvious they don't understand how that should work. You don't need Eskom permission to be exempted a stage. Strictly speaking anyway, Eskom ask you to take off so many MWs from their supply and as long as you fulfill that they don't care.

Well actually Eskom was the one that said no to them

Perhaps the city could come up with some novel concept to keep these things safe. Perhaps even pay some people to stand at the backup solutions and keep them safe. We could call this new concept a "guard", as they are "guarding" the expensive backup solution.

you'd think that would've already been the case, but apparently the generators required for those pumps would be huge.

Maybe even shoot the fkrs stealing and put an end to this nonsense but ja...I suppose there would be some or other outcry about human rights and kak like that...

seen this "solution" before, guard hut in front of an advertising Billboard.

Yup though you'd not need to run it every load shedding cycle, just perhaps in the morning or something the pumps don't need to run all the time.

Even better. Let's call this brand new concept an "armed guard".

I honestly don't know why they don't just use the military. It's not like they're doing anything important or useful at the moment anyway. It's also not like there's much training required to stand around next to some batteries or a big gennie.

That says nothing on why Eskom insisted they load shed. Load shedding means removing the city must remove so many MWs from their Eskom supply, why would the city of Joburg agree to remove extra to "protect" the grid? Smells like a lack of understand by city power and the city to me.

I think it was cause Eskom was using Kelvin as an IPP supplier as well. But we will see what happens.

Im all for using the military..not sure what 65,000 odd troops do all day long anyway? Could be using a unit to also sort out all the zama zamas..surely it would be some training for them as well? Close off the area, give them a warning to sod off then go in and warm the area up...

Its amazing how quickly the superior fighting force called SANDF was deployed back in the early days of lockdown in March 2020...
