Friend's cell phone is receiving push notifications every 5 to 10 minutes. From Hollywood Bets and the like. It does not look like SMS or WhatsApp. But dozens of them in the notifications (Android).

We have checked the WASP number for Cell C and there is nothing for this.

Look through her apps and there are no rogue applications or anything vaguely suspicious.

It seems it was something that started when she allowed Firefly Photography (?) images from a recent wedding.

Any ideas?

TIA.

Restore to factory default settings as a last resort.

By any chance does the phone have a custom launcher? I tried many a few years back and most of them had push ads.

Check apps that are installed as well.

Long press the notification, then in menu disable it

Your friend might have subscribed to push notification from any website if not then it's due to some kind of virus. Clear your browser's cache, cookies & history or reset your browser to default settings.

I would also guess it is chrome notifications. Check chrome notification settings.

If you tap and hold the notification it should show you from which app it is posted. From there you can either reset the app or disable it completely. I recall getting hordes of broadcast messages from MTN and I had to reset the "Emergency Broadcasts" app on my Android.
