Hey

Wondered about this. My parents Getz 1.3 can get to a speed of 80 in second gear alone at 6000rpm. (before it reaches the red). Father tested it the other day and showed me.

Fiat Palio 1.2EL that I got does not have a rev counter so I cannot really tell. I know Fiat FIRE motors are very noisy so its difficult to judge. Going to a max of 60km in second, well the motor lets you know its working.

I will not take it past that point but I was wondering if the speed max of a Palio 1.3 and Getz 1.3 would be similar on the second gear?

I didn't test higher gears cause I don't feel like being that dangerous driver.

This is just something I would like to know rather than put into practice on the road.

At what point is it actually dangerous to the engine, surly 60 in second cant be dangerous to the engine! (Fiat FIRE engine) Obviously I know normal driving you would shift to 4rd at like 40 just saying for pushing purposes.

good question, i have got a 1.4 grande punto fiat, and i think i'll just make it to 65 70 in 2. gear, is ur parents getz an automatic ? cause 80 km/h in a 1.3 in second gear is hectic!

No its a manual. 2005 1.3 Getz like 78 @ 6000rpm - I have not pushed my Palio 1.2 above 60 in second and don't think I want to :)

You could work it out by using the gear ratio's and speed. There's bound to be a website that'll calculate it for you, but you'll need to look up the figures either on the internet or in the car's manual, if they even state it. Heaven knows why anyone WOULDN'T put a tachometer on a car, but that's another thread entirely.

I had a rental Atos once. I think it's a 1.4 as well, but I managed to push it to well over 80 in 2nd.

Of course, I wouldn't do that to my own car!!! :p

well my moms 1.3 Getz does 85 in 2nd just before hitting limiter...

My 1.3 corsa, does 85 in 2nd just before hitting limiter...

My dads 320i... does 90 before hitting the limiter.

Doesnt really make sense how a 2L is the same, but i dunno.it has a much longer 3rd and 4th though.

Gear ratio

My Bike does a shyt load in 1st gear not even close to the limiter ;) :D

If Car Magazine did a road test on the Palio then you could find the gear speeds for each gear, they list the speeds at the red line and at the maximum power rpm.

Btw, my car does 80km/h in first gear (automatic).

Well is it all that bad to valve bounce?
Well I did this to my bike the other day.. :o
Not sure how I got it right.. but yea, the "shim" on one of the valves fell out of place.. engine still ran but only on three cylinders .. at least a 25% performance decrease..

Anyway it meant removing the overhead camshaft cover, which required removing the petrol tank and the radiator.. A lot of work for a little problem.. :(
No actual damage was done though :)

LOL, my brother had an old Golf I with an Audi 1.8 engine in it ... got 120km/h in second gear :)

Rev the bike full out, then put the cut off switch off and on again ;) :D
Makes nice flames and sounds Brilliant !
