Hey guys

I am going to be putting together my own PC for R10 000 and was wondering about hardware.

Firstly - For processor, should I bother getting a core i5? I mean, should I rather just get a really good quad core or dual core?

Secondly - For graphics card, should I get a Radeon 4890, or a 5770?
Or should I go for a GTX 260 / 250?

I budgeted costs like this - Processor ~ R2k,
GPU ~ R2.5k,
Mobo ~ 2k,
RAM ~ R1.5k
Leaving R2000 for other stuff like CD drive, case (with PSU) and Hard drive.\

So what do you think good choices would be for the main components, considering my budget? Feel free to re-arrange my priorities in your answer.

Thanks

Definitely quad core, i5 750

4890 is good but i'm sure you budgeted a bit too much for cpu (1.8k gets you an i5) and RAM (1k for a good set of 4GB DDR3) so you might be able to get a 5850

Go for the cheapest one, reference cards are all the same only the stuff that comes with the card changes and the warranty (vga-dvi adapters, stickers etc)

So you reckon ATI is the way to go for Graphics cards?
Yes.

I was thinking either of these

or

Im not sure what to choose when it comes to these 3rd party cards (HIS, Sapphire, MSI etc).

[-]It doesn't really matter which one you go for currently, they are all the same.[/-]

What Silverlight said...

Cheap ones I've seen are the Club3D range.

so true, plp getting ripped off paying tons more for basically the same card, that may have been factory OC'd a bit, but u can do that yourself.

Also recommend a good case, u spend so much money on sexy looking components like gfx card , mobo..etc and its a shame to put it in a fugly case

also need a network card for modem

Thanks for replying everyone.

So there's nothing actually wrong with Club3d, they just don't make any special adjustments really?

Correct.

Also, I was thinking for mobo, what about

or even

Would getting an Asus with all that extra crap be better than getting an Intel?

ASUS, costs less and it's better value.

Personally if this is just a game/internet/email pc you should look into amd and get a 5870, you will get far better performance with a cheaper amd and far better vga card.

M4A785T-M ASUS AMD Socket AM3, AMD 785G, 5200MT/s, 4xDual DDR3 1800(O.C), Onboard VGA (HDMI), 1xPCI-x16(Hybrid CrossFire), 1xPCIx1, 2xPCI, 1xATA133, 6xSATA (Raid 0,1,10), Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound HD, Max 12xUSB, microATX R 879 excl. R 1,002 incl.

AMD Phenom II X4 925, 6MB L2 Cache, AM3, R 1,172 excl. R 1,336 incl.

Use the savings to bump the gpu up to a 5870. Far better for gaming than an i5 with 4890.

No i am not a fanboy :D.

HD5870/G/2DIS/1GD5/A - ASUS ATI Radeon HD5870, 1GB DDR5, 256bit (HDMI+2xDVI+ Display Port +VGA (using a converter) - PCI-Express + Dirt 2 Game R 4,099 excl. R 4,672 incl.
