Finally reached lvl 70~! woohoo :D

now i am checking out the battlegrounds and arenas and so on, but i have a few Qs for the other locks on the forum:

1:Whats the best PvP spec?
2:Whats the best pet to have out in a battlegrounds situation?
3:Whats the best pet to have out in an arena situation?
4:What is the best entry level 70 rewards gear, i see there is dreadweave and felweave, with the major difference being that dreadweave has higher resilience but no crit bonuses.
5:After the dreadweave/felweave gear what gear should i be aspiring to?
6:HOW THE HELL DO I KILL ROGUES?

:D:D:D

I have not been in arena's yet so my 2c is worth prob. less.

I have noted that when people are forming Arena teams their main focus is resilience. So i would guess that you need to up your Resilience first ;)

I as a Rogue hate AoE spells. Once stealth is broken my biggest hits are gone :o = No Burst damage. If you can try and spam Fear ;) once his Stealth is broken, keep the damage coming. I know Locks have this spell that prevents you from going stealth. That includes vanish. So dot that as your first hit

Work on your S1 gear set and other pvp rewards, those should help you a lot for pvp, and the initial arena games. It will take time to build a full set since you just turned 70, but you will learn how to play your class at 70 much better and its now faster to get s1 gear than all the crafted gear...

The biggest problem I have found with rogues is to get them off of you. I was felguard for quite a while and even tho I miss it deep affliction has some tasty tricks.

Right now I'm specced 45/5/11. I have the S1 Dreadweave Shoulders and Gloves(50% chance to avoid losing casting time when casting fear). My hp is only at 8.8k so it's not very high but here is what I do with rogues.

Soon as they get the jump on you spam Instant howl of terror. If the rogue is well geared you will die before you manage this. If you get it off slap on Curse of Exhaustion and make sure you start moving away ASAP. Then slap on the other dots and keep moving away from the rogue. He will probably pop cloak of shadows keep an eye out for it and when he does turn around at the last minute and deathcoil as soon as he loses Cloak of Shadow then Curse of Exhaustion and fear and dot up again.

So far this is one of the only ways I have been able to beat rogues, but if they are AR/Prep and well geared you will die before coming out of the stunlock.

Then about spec, there is no real "best spec" but there are a few that work well. For arena SL/SL(Siphon Life/Soul Link) is great in the 2v2 and 3v3 brackets. It helps you sruvive for ages.

A Felguard spec also works pretty well. And I'm quite surprised at how well deep affliction is working in BGs.

For gear go and grind out the Season 1 Arena epics. Personally I would go for the Dreadweave but there are some locks that go for 2/5 Felweave(Shoulders+Head) with 3/5 Dreadweave to get a double 35resilience set bonus.

Resilience will be one of the most important stats for pvp since it reduces Crit chance, Crit Damage and also DOT damage.

I think go and check out these 2 sites. You should be able to find most of what you need there.

1: SL/SL is apparently the way to go for Arena (Don't do arena myself because of
latency)
This spec lets you outlast your opponent until (if caster) all their mana is gone or (if
melee) all their health is gone.
Demo locks (felguards) also do very well in arena. Aff is right out unless you can hide
in a big 5v5 team
For BG's Aff do a lot better but still are very squishy if you ever come face to face
with someone. Destro is also very good but extremely gear reliant. And Demo is King.

2: In BG's I always have my Felpup out (i'm aff) for destroying casters but if you have
Felguard use him. Succys are good for when a rogue gets the jump on you and you
can seduce them but I prefer my felpup as he is just so versatile (good mana pool for
DP, not bad dps, and tough. Not to mention spell lock and dispel magic :D)

3: SL/SL - felpup
Demo - felguard or if you see they have a priest quick summon felpup
Aff - Felpup/succy your choice.

4: Get your dreadweave set. You want as much resilience and stam in PVP as you can
So you don't get 1 shotted by rogues.

5: Arena Gear

6: If you see him first send you pet to attack (even if he stealths you pet will still attack him) and dot him up (this will break stealth & keep him from stealthing) If you have Curse of exhaustion use that as well, although it does no damage it will slow him down making it harder to close the gap. Then try get a fear off, SB & reapply dots. Save your Coil for the end, you want to force him to use his cloak of shadow before you use it. If you have shadowburn don't be shy with it, an extra +1000 instant dmg does wonders, and hope to god for shadow trance procs.

If he gets sees you first and manages to stun lock you, then pray. While praying, if you have succy seduce him or if you have felguard intercept him to buy precious moments. Use trinket and DC or preferably iHoT him if you have it, just get him away from you. If you seduced him don't blow your DC, just create a gap drop a CoE on him if you have it. Then follow the above.
Maybe try fear him as an opening attack if he is seduced to let you dot him up without breaking cc.

And try to stay calm, don't panic waste your DC save it for near the end of the fight. Unless it's unavoidable.

Also if you suspect there is a rogue stealth in your general vicinity a blast or two of lvl 1 Hellfire is a nice surprise to force him out of stealth.

wow great replies guys, are any of you alliance or all you all horde? =)
i have used the felguard intercept trick to get rid of rogues before, and it seems to work OK, if i can at least spam off a fear before he recovers.
I have noticed that a lot of players seem to be immune to fear and DC horror effects - anyone know why? trinket?

I do think i need to respec aff, but i dont want to lose the felly lol!
I have heard rumors that full destro is the way to go for PVP too, that at all true?

if i were to do destro, would the felshroud set be the one to choose as apposed to the dreadweave?
and vice versa for affl?

One other thing a friend of mine does with the SL/SL build is when he knows he is going to face a rogue/warrior he summons the Voidwalker. It's hard to take down for melee and you can sac it just before it dies for a shield and insta summon another one.

that sounds like an idea, but then whats to stop the warrior from just nuking me =)
anyone know if the voids suffering spell affects players too?

Hehe with the combination of Soul link, Siphon life and drain tanking... that warrior is going to have a hard time simply nuking you down =P

i suppose, so the best spec then would be SL/SL?

For arenas yes, it seems the way to go. But for BG's i hear it can get a bit boring.

Destro is great if you have loads of +crit and no one touches you, but alas us locks seem to be at the top of the "ignore everyone else and kill it" list

yes i agree, i find that a battle will be merrily carrying on, but as soon as i come on the scene, everyone turns and runs towards me!

What can I say, I like killing Warlocks. But if it makes you feel any better, I target Pallies first, Locks second and Mages third.
Rogues, Druids and Warriors get dotted as I pass them by.

well if we want to honest its because locks just dot everything .. and i mean everything, how they do so i do not know cause mobs that give u a "out of range" message also have dots on them. (locks are dotty bef******) i mean sometimes all the way to the damn boss.

Spec SL/SL and be sure to take Curse of Exhaustion, Deathcoil, CoEX, kite, profit!

Voidwalker can help since you will take 30% less damage (master demonologist+soullink) as opposed to 20% less with just soul link. That said look carefully at the rest of your opponents first, if there are casters then fel hunter is still going to be better, remember it can eat debuffs off you as well.

Consider taking demonic resilience as well to help with melee, something like http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IVzrVofkoZbxczIiz0es should work well. Can switch some things around like 1/2 lifetap for 2/2 Imp DS if you like
