Hi friends,

So last night our DSTV decoder started acting funny.

It gives an error "E72 TV2 Disabled. Please Contact Customer Services." on our 2nd channel of the PVR - as well as when you try access any recording / pause / whatnot features on the first channel.

Now I have no idea how this can happen since:

1) We have a debit order going for subscription
2) One channel still works,so it's not like they've cut us off.

Has anyone else experienced this or know how I'm to go about fixing it?

Regards
Voicy

Aye, sounds like they think you haven't paid the Xtraview portion, so like Quantum says, they have disabled that.

Not the Extraview (thats for linking two decoders). The extra R60 per month is for dual view / PVR. Check with Multichoice - yes their stupid voice recognition helpline is painfull. My gues iss your Hard drive could be going. I lost my PVR functioning when my hard drive packed in, cant recall if it affected the TV2 side of things. Also could not access any recordings - obviously with the HDD dead!

Multichoice's "helpline" makes me cut myself.

Thanks, guess all I can do is call them. It's just friggen weird - works for months ... now mid month it stops.

Is it possible to swap the drives to check?

Nope. The data is encrypted for your PVR and smartcard only. Phone them first, let them try do a reset over the sat. Have you tried to do a soft reset yet ?

Tried to do a whatnow?

I'm assuming you mean normal reset.

Ya... also have you actually powered off the PVR, then leave it off for about 15 seconds, turn it on again. Sometimes it can help. But more than likely its a system fault. I remember now that I had both channels working like a standard dual view decoder when the HDD died. So you should see the 2nd TV even if there is no HDD. Just PVR functions are disabled.

Thanks dude - all working again.

Seems when I switched it off/on previously I didn't let it go for long enough.

Yeah they do.

I used to fix the original decoders back in the day when I still worked in an electronics shop.

They'd give an error signal that costs you R 350 at multichoice to fix. We did it for the same price and saved the customer a 2 week waiting period. Took 10mins to fix, always the same cap that overheated and went.

Got mine fixed for R40 :D
Good to have friends in the right business. He replaced all the caps on the power supply for that price.

Whenever something's wrong they always blame the power supply :p

There are 4 caps that were being naughty ... amounting a total of about R5 if you bought them off the shelf.

Then again, it's not replacing the caps that you get charged for ... it's knowing where to fiddle. :D

In this case it was the actual power-supply. Now I have high quality caps that can actually handle the heat, and it is spec'd better too.

My friend was shocked by the low quality components, but then again, he builds stuff for military applications, so is used to better :p

E76 TV2 Disabled. Please contact customer service.

I've received this error for months on my dual view DSTV. After numerous calls to them and even getting a technician out, no-one has been able to solve my problem. The problem recurred every 30 minutes and once you switch the TV off and then on again after 30 seconds, it sorts out the problem for now, but then goes off again after 30 minutes again.
I have found the problem: I use a Samsung flat-screen TV and I changed my 'Energy Saving' setting on the TV from 'High' to 'Medium' and I haven't had the problem again.
I'm not sure how this resolved the error, but it did. Please let me know if it works for you too.
Regards
Eugene
