PVR questions

Sorry for the double post...but been thinking about it and its actually very irritating, to put it mildy. So you have a choice, either upgrade to HD PVR and lose the dual channel, or stay with DV PVR and not get HD option. You would think they would get it right? HD is awesome...but to me personally, its not that critical or a must have so I can do without.

I see there is lots of talk about saying the HD PVR will have dual view, and others say it wont. So not sure really what to believe. Will wait for confirmation on this...and if there is no dual view with the HD PVR...then I for one will not get the HD PVR. Will rather stick with a DV PVR...

have you seen a HD quality picture? come back to this thread in 1/2/3 years time and you won't believe what you said here. you will drop SD like a hot potato.

HD rocks (as long as NoChoice doesn't mess up the encoding/compression)!!

I wonder if Neotel will be entering the PayTV market... NeoChoice would be a good name :)

Hmm, seen HD...looks good, but have no actually sat down and watched a movie or program in HD. So ja, thats about as much experience I have had with HD. It dos look good...but ja, maybe I nee dto watch something in HD to get the full appreciation?

Just have to wait for the launch.

By coax cable I meant I'm running cables to 3 TVs currently of which 2 are HD LCDs. So do I need to run HDMI cables to the 2 of 'em to watch HD or can I run HDMI to one and HD the signal will pass through the coax to the other one.

Sounds like a schlep :(

I dont think that there is any issue with the quality comparisons. Most people know that HD is streets ahead, but it is DSTV's ridiculous decision not to include Dual View that pisses on my battery. I would want to upgrade to HD but watch them then release a new Dual View HD PVR shortly afterwards - that would push me over the edge with these thieves!

i dont see anything wrong with using a second decoder as a dual-view enabler. i read somewhere that dual-view is a really complicated technology and is not an industry norm, so this solution should allow for more options in the future as far as expendability is concerned, ie consumer scores. quad-view ftw

Then why did they fsck us over in the first place. If you check my earlier post, I spent thousands on setting up for dualview HD. I also have two HD LCDs, which means I have to buy two decoders to get HD signals on both. And what happens when HD channels are launched? Will they be available on my ordinary PVR or will I be forced to buy another HD PVR?

Got a question... I got one HD TV and 3 other normal TV's around the house using a normal dual view DSTV decoder...will I be able to use the new HD PVR to watch HD tv on the HD tv and maybe connect the old decoder to the new one to be able to watch another channel in the rest of the house?

It seems so.

HD signal will not pass through co-ax.

HDMI cable length is also limited / something to do with the resistance etc. its a very high bandwidth cable...maybe the reason why there is no Dual view, imagine setting up a 30m HDMI cable...never seen that available, max I have seen is 15m and bloody expensive.
